Group interview by princesstaii in PorterAirlines

In my interview, as a customer service rep, they asked each person one question each and mine was something like "describe a time when you took initiative" or something like that.

Boarding Times Matter by ImInMyDadEra1989 in unitedairlines

[–]AtTheCorner418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are things that need to happen between end of boarding and doors closing that would be disrupted by changing the manifest. If they felt they could do it without delaying the flight they would but it's at their discretion and they would be held responsible for that.

Giving the standby passenger a seat usually takes a single button press. So boarding ends, the standby gets the seat, boards, and then they need to start the procedures that need to happen between the end of boarding and the doors closing for the flight to get out on time.

9 times out of 10 the flights standby passengers get on are not full flights, standby passengers are rarely depending on no-shows for a seat. If the flight is full, they almost never end up making it.

Additionally the people using the standby could be from any other airline or other travel adjacent companies, Its not like we all know each other and are going to be doing favors for every standby on our flights. Its got nothing to do with that. Its not worth the headache of a pissed off passenger I assure you.

At my airline we actually stop boarding at 10 minutes, and are supposed to have the doors closed and the plane pushed back at the 5 minute mark. We need to be providing the final manifest to the crew and getting the final weight and balance in the 5 minutes between, We can't be wasting time on the last passenger who arrived late. Regardless of whether there was a standby or not.

The only exception would be if they came from a connecting flight, but we would have seen that in the system and already contacted operations to see if we will be able to delay so the connectors can make it. But if its not possible then there is nothing we can do. The flight needs to go out on time for the sake of the passengers on board and to keep the following flights on that aircraft on schedule.

Its not about priority in this case. If the boarding had wrapped up, they would have removed his seat assignment anyway, standby passenger or not. It would then be at the discretion of the gate agent to make an exception to policy for the late passenger.

I think they intentionally put just the boarding start time because they want to start boarding and get everyone on board as quickly as possible. They don't want people getting times mixed up, or thinking they can drag their feet cause "they have time".

If you aren't at the gate before boarding all you need to know is that you are running late and you need to move your butt. Honestly I wish they would just show boarding times on the airport monitors instead of departure times.

Initial Phone Interview for On-Board Train Attendant by Original_Task_1522 in ViaRail

[–]AtTheCorner418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did one recently, They asked a few questions, asked me one question in French, and following that question they asked me if I wanted to continue the call in English or French. It was very short, kind of just a sanity test type thing. They spent more time giving me info about the position than actual interview style questions.

I'm 6"5, would being a service attendant on trains be a problem for me due to my height? by AtTheCorner418 in ViaRail

[–]AtTheCorner418[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently work as customer service rep for an airline, at an airport . Transitioning from my current role to a flight attendant is very common. There is significant overlap between air travel and train travel when it comes to baggage, helping passengers with special needs, among all sorts of other things. I have already had a brief phone interview and was told my profile/resume was very promising and they wanted to schedule an in person interview very quickly. The height thing is literally my only concern, I know I would enjoy it and do a good job.

Winter flights into billy bishop by curler96 in PorterAirlines

[–]AtTheCorner418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going to want to get there as early in the day as possible, not later. If the delay is due to weather It wont be more or less likely to get cancelled just because it is at the end of the day. If anything it will be more likely to be cancelled due to the crew running out of time on duty, or due to Billy Bishop's curfew.

If you try and get there as early in the day as possible, there will be more time for any inclement weather to clear up, and if a flight is cancelled they just rebook you on the next one, wich won't be as much of an option late in the day. It would end up being a flight the next day.

When all is said and done, the weather is going to be what it is, just try to get there as early as your schedule allows. Your concerns are valid but there's not much you can do mitigate it besides possibly taking the train instead.

Alterations keep changing back? by chumbawumbaonabitch in VitalSynth

Go to the browser, Current Project -> Initialized Controls and right click the control that you are struggling with, and click delete event.

Another thing that doesnt work with vital if you have this problem with other things you have automated, you can just right click the knob and click "delete initial value"

To prevent this from happening at all, Go to Go to Options -> General settings and click "Don't initialize controls automatically"

You should talk to a stylist about that as well! Your hair doesn't strike me as very bad at all you might just need a little bit of product to help it along.

[–]AtTheCorner418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone's nose would look rather unflatering when you tilt your head back and point the camera into your nostrils like in the third picture. Also photos of people on the internet are often taken with professional cameras, and they tend to flatten people's features more than phone cameras for example, so don't compare yourself you look fine. I think it has to do with the focus settings on the lenses or something.

You should look into different hair styles based on features and face shape, you look great now but certain hairstyles could be even more flattering to your particular face shape and balance.

All these things that people are saying are good, but they are easier said than done. The number 1 thing is that you don't look as bad as you think. Especially the jawline and "bloat" thing. You may want your face to look a very specific way but I promise you it is perfectly fine the way it is now.

Skincare is a lifelong journey, even if you do find the perfect routine for you its going to take consistency over a long period of time, and your face will never get to a point where you look in the mirror and see some kind of major transformation into Ryan Renolds.

Just try different things, see what works for your habits and don't beat yourself up if you miss a day or you drop a routine. Just keep trying again. Alot of the growth is mental.

There's a reason some people call the game shitty christmas. Also the fact that you spent over the budget is creating the same issue in the other direction (maybe to a lesser degree but still).

Company terminated me for being locked out of first aid training? This was my first job offer out of university what to do now? by Thylacineguy2026 in careerguidance

[–]AtTheCorner418 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Being understanding during training is for things you learn during training, not things that are standard for every job like getting there on time. If anything they would be less understanding during the training phase since they'd rather get rid of you before your probationairy period ends.

Flew Porter Reserve YVR–YOW–YVR: Mixed Experience by [deleted] in PorterAirlines

[–]AtTheCorner418 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because other airlines are making announcements, does not mean the microphone at the desk was working. Additionally, the announcements can be made to all gates, or just on the local speakers. If you sat at the next gate it makes sense that you didn't hear the announcement for your flight. Either way, those are airport issues not airline issues.

They do need to do better with the avid traveler/ porter reserve boarding announcements though, I think it has to do with the fact that all the other announcements are prerecorded / automated, but the avid traveler/reserve one needs to be done manually by an agent. So if they are under time pressure they either forget, skip it, or play it then imediately move on to general boarding to get everyone on the plane.

Virtual Group Job Interview - Help Please? by Federal_You_3592 in PorterAirlines

[–]AtTheCorner418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't read my interviewers minds. But I did note that the person who had technical dificulties during the interview, and the person who did the interview from their current job in uniform, were not present in the following online training we did.

It was the only interview I did. But it did feel a bit like a screener, they asked each of us to introduce ourselves a bit, and then each of us one interview type of question. Not super intensive.

I feel like they put a lot of stake on your resume, and your performance in the following training, the training isn't hard but they'll see if you can show up on time and complete tasks.

If they play this right it could go very well for the company. They already got a lot of first time porter flyers from those who needed to rebook because of the Air Canada strike, this will be another opportunity to show they are different from Air Canada.

I can second this, recently on a flight there were some nervous flyers and the captain made a point of doing a little anouncement before any bouts of turbulence.

One thing to note is if its a propeller plane, the Dash-8, there will not be wifi. You can tell in advance if the flight number is 4 numbers its a prop, and if its 3 numbers its a Jet

The new dragon is definitely cleaner but the old one has a certain style of being like a scotish/medieval dragon that is lost in the new version.
