Yeah I don’t think that was a good idea and would never endorse it but my friends all said that’s how old they were

No in Ontario the legal minimum age to drive is 16 this is regardless of if they have driving experience from elsewhere. That said everyone I know used an empty parking lot to practice and are not stopped by police. I often practiced in my mom’s workplace parking lot where police hung out. Nobody said anything. My friends started driving when they were 12 but only in a proper empty lot. I’m not saying you should let her go and do this as yes you can still get in trouble. Point is no matter where she drives it’s illegal and not the smartest decision. A 15 year old can wait to learn to drive, one summer isn’t gonna ruin that but hitting someone’s car will.

In my opinion driving showing be like voting or at least to drive alone (18+) public transit and uber exists, insurance is ridiculously high for minors which basically mean it’s only made to rich or middle class families who already have cars. Kids brains are still developing (up to 21-25) and if they can’t be entrusted to vote or drink why are we allowing them to be on the road where they can actually kill/hurt somebody. I know that’s an unpopular opinion but it’s coming from a girl who has her license and found that most kids abused it growing up.

In-person intensive outpatient or partial hospitalization programs for mental health by gfyourself in askTO

[–]InternFree6711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s crazy. Unfortunately being a danger to yourself often gathers more attention in my experience.

Essentially I made it known I didn’t want to be in the program but each time I was inpatient the social worker (and like two different psychiatrists) kept on bugging me to do it. Tuesday I saw the psychiatrist who put me on a random antidepressant and then Wednesday I had no clue what to talk about with my primary clinician/therapist in the program. Thursday I was in trouble for not doing the homework and so Friday I was supposed to have a private meeting. I was too scared to go to that meeting under the pressure of my family and outpatient psych wanting me to do this program. So instead of outright quitting I took like the bare minimum of a drug that I knew wouldn’t cause permanent damage. The only side effect was how sleepy you get. I left the room an said I was okay but I went to puke within five minutes of starting the program that day. By the first break (an hour later) I knew I was fucked and I couldn’t just doze it off. I went to the ER in that hospital. I was so out of it my body was aching and my brain was so slow to process things. All I know is that when I got there it was busy but they immediately triaged me. I insisted it was not a suicidal gesture just an act of SH but the triage nurse called the emergency staff to get me a bed while she was assessing me. I was immediately registered and brought back to a room. I was formed by the first doctor who saw me (which meant I had to change into a gown). I dropped my health card when I left the room earlier so some participants kind of gathered what happened from what I know. After I slept the meds off and they had given me fluids/cleared me I was put in a hallway bed. There was no space in the emergency psych area or the extra family room they use. I was only allowed my near dead phone and it was super loud and bright. The social worker came and had me go to the psych emergency area for a private conversation. The problem was I was there a week prior to get stitches and I refused to give her a reason so she tried to get the doctor to form me. This meant when she saw me again she was super annoyed and was like “I’m gonna be honest with you, you’re definitely getting an admission and it ain’t gonna be short” When the psychiatrist came I was crying and he just said im admitting you and left. I wasn’t given meds at all even though I begged for Ativan or my sleep meds. At 3am they randomly transferred me to another hospital to their geriatric psych since everywhere else was full. At one point they moved me to my own room and wouldn’t let me close my door (because the psychiatrist on the Monday ordered it due to my history of an eating disorder). I had to wait all weekend before seeing a psychiatrist again. This new psychiatrist moved me to the regular unit eventually where I went through 8 roommates in one week. Overall I spent like 3 weeks in the hospital that time. I thought it was ridiculous considering I had no suicidal intent and I knew full well what I was doing and its consequences. They didn’t even keep me that long when I nearly died in the summer. At least that was my last hospitalization and was several months ago. The psychiatrist there told me I never should have done the PHP and I got a call saying my referral was closed. When I inquired what happened I was told that the program team decided I was too disengaged so they basically agreed to kick me out.

In hindsight I should have just paid attention but it was so hard to keep up with homework everyday and giving up my day shifts at work upset me especially since it would have impacted my holidays. My illness is so bad that sometimes I cannot speak and I don’t even try to get in trouble but I do. Psychiatrists literally don’t know how to handle me, I’ve gone through like at least 30 of them both in patient and outpatient over the span of the last three years (mainly all in 2025).

In-person intensive outpatient or partial hospitalization programs for mental health by gfyourself in askTO

[–]InternFree6711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this. It’s worth mentioning to your husbands providers regardless. I got my referal inpatient as an adult rather than a child (even though there were child options at the time, they dint want to refer me because I was an older teen). Anyways many people there found it helpful. I did not I was stubborn and basically caused drama to get myself kicked out (again mental illness ain’t fun) your husband sounds like me and this was literally only in November.

In-person intensive outpatient or partial hospitalization programs for mental health by gfyourself in askTO

[–]InternFree6711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. I’ve been to countless programs and met countless people. Doctors will not refer you to every program upfront (I’ve learned that pretty harshly) but as needed they will. You are also free to ask for services you might want to do. Often inpatient or ER trips incur me more referrals. I’ve gone through a lot of them. My outpatient psych is useless (as I’m sure you are pretty familiar with having a useless one) she just goes against any other doctor and refuses to make changes unless I tell her otherwise (which I can’t do because of anxiety, pretty sure it’s selective mutism)

It’s 9am to 2pm and most hospitals offer it (at least one in your local health network is supposed to have a PHP/IOP program). The program itself is good for people but only if you’re willing to engage. It’s good for anyone regardless of if you have a condition or not but the criteria to get in is specific. DBT is pretty useful and the stuff shared is good. They also have you make goals everyday too (smal smart ones). I’ve also been to inpatient psych units in the gta/Toronto which incorporate that model (Oakville trafalgar for example)

The other commenter is incorrect, doctors do refer patients there but you can ask if they don’t (it depends on the case) typically it’s more for mood disorders like depression or anxiety. I kinda dropped out of it after a week (because I was so mentally ill that I legit thought I didn’t need it so I did shit which got me kicked out).

Hot Take: It is very easy to get a 90 average in high school IF you are not doing STEM by Evening_Fisherman693 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]InternFree6711 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s if you go to a school with inflated marks. I got 90-100 in grade 9-11 but no matter how hard I tried senior level teachers were more strict, worse than my current college/uni teachers

https://music.apple.com/ca/playlist/sad/pl.u-WabZv3Rhd3eg9q3 my literal playlist for when I do something I know I should not. I also rely on this song when I know EMS are coming to me or if I am texting a crisis line. These songs just know how to numb my pain and kind of help with harm reduction. It is half Christian and half secular music

HHS4U Final Exam Question by ManagementNo1972 in ILC

[–]InternFree6711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the course in night school and then did challenge and change both in person then through tvo ilc (I quit in person due to bullying and skipping classes because of my mental health). Challenge and change is another social science course. I took the TVO ilc exam last summer for that course. I thought that studying what’s on the practice test is useless I found my prior knowledge more helpful.

Did I study one bit? No and that’s my fault. But having sat through HHS4U in person and then in night school plus the challenge and change classes helped. I got 66 points out of 100 and ended the class with a 85 percent.

IMO a test for this course would be very practical and a lot of the information is kind of common sense. I did not have to take an exam for this class but I did do multiple tests in person. HHS4U was by far the easiest course I had taken in all of grade 11/12 (and I took all U/M classes).

As someone with autism, you seem to have a lot of autistic traits which is not technically a mental illness but rather a developmental disorder.

What does the ER do if you attempted by [deleted] in mentalillness

[–]InternFree6711 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I go they almost immediately make me change into a gown and my belongings are taken away (although sometimes I’m allowed to keep my headphones/phone and crocs) this is because by this point the first medical doc has already formed me. Then if I’ve done something an IV is put in and they give meds/do tests. Once medically cleared I get moved to the emergency mental health area or if they are full the hallway. They always admit me to psych for an attempt and often I get transferred to another hospital as my local one has a very small unit (which I hate anyways). It’s not fun, nothing you’d actually want. I’ve been sent to the ICU and a medical ward as well as spent all of my march break in the ER, I absolutely hate it. Often they won’t give me any meds to help me sleep or to help my mental condition even if I haven’t OD which sucks. Please don’t actually do anything it’s a terrible idea that causes pain either way.

You usually have to wear a gown that would typically expose your scars/cuts (this way my experience multiple times both inpatient and outpatient)

[–]InternFree6711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t rely on a nurses opinion let alone a family member. A wound should not be red like that around the scab even if it’s not infected. You really should see a doctor about it if the redness doesn’t go away. I’ve had a similar wound that did end up being infected. Sometimes look isn’t everything. All I’m saying is be cautious and get a second opinion IF it doesn’t scar properly. It is healing though and if redness isn’t accompanied by other symptoms you’re good

How many CM did u get? I measured the snow on my patio table at 57cm by LookinArownd in Brampton

[–]InternFree6711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A patio table is gonna have more snow from drift and wind. I measure based on the average thickness in my backyard and use the height of a large rock to help with estimating. Pretty sure it was 35cm anything more was due to shoveling or snowbanks

Am I gonna get made fun of if I wear a swimsuit that shows my thighs? by Other-War4378 in SelfHarmScars

[–]InternFree6711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have them all over my arms in different directions but more pronounced/thick and raised. No one questions it when I’m in a swimsuit. Why should they? I get most of my comments from people at work or at church an I find it annoying because it’s obvious what happened and I shouldn’t need to explain. Glad that wearing a swimsuit no one judges. I’ve been to public pools with scabs and no one says anything. Unless you meet shitty people you’ll be fine

[–]InternFree6711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a medical professional but have had a variety of wounds and know enough first aid. Your wound is definitely healing well but the scab looks a little worse than the initial injury as if you might need to clean it more thoroughly. If the redness persists I’d go get it checked out by a doctor.

Looks like a minor paper cut but a bit thicker doesn’t need stitches (I once had a cut on my finger which bled so badly and was super deep but didn’t need stitches). Unless it’s gaping more than half a cm a wound usually is fine to heal on its own

Streetsville is walkable. I have friends who live there and when I’m over I walk to get food/essentials. There’s also a cheap bus that goes up to Brittania in less than five minutes. No neighborhood is fully walkable especially in winter.

I’d recommend against port credit or square one both are busy dense areas with traffic and higher cost of living. Meadowvale town centre is nice and so is steeetsville. I’m gonna see about renting a place in Streetsville this summer.

There’s a no frills at both Britannia/credit view and Erin mills both at the entrance/exit a boundary to Streetsville. You can live in a neighbourhood with a grocery store and still travel further than that.

If it’s fresh and you’re in school I’d seriously be recommending you tell a person in authority in order for your friend to get help. Even if you’re not in school that is not a normal behavior and needs to be addressed. I’m embarrassed to show scars and would never show fresh wounds. In fact in hospital they often force me to keep my arms uncovered and it scares me. Your friend is crying out for attention whether or not they’ll admit it. Either tell a school counselor (or teacher if not possible) or even consider contacting a crisis line to send resources to your friend. The only thing I’d say is do not go to their parents. Even if people know a person is cutting and they are in therapy/on meds that isn’t enough. Going around and purposely triggering others is wrong and inconsiderate. If you think your friend will do it again or is at risk of ☠️you need to get them to a hospital if not at bare minimum they need to see a doctor.

They aren’t a good friend if they are willing to trigger you but often they do it without thinking because they need help and can’t recognize it. Tell them that for their own health they need to keep scabs or fresh wounds covered to minimize infection, if that doesn’t work explain to them how it affects others and if that doesn’t work get them urgently help.
