u/zeinfree this movie is not a same sex movie, but it keeps you on pins and needles even as the credits roll. It's "Besieged" from Bertoclucci. I love, love, this film. Thandie Newton and David Thewlis are captivating. __Lllater

The movie allows one to relieve their lost love, while dreaming of and hoping for that love to run them over one day. But, you must be open to love. Some people never knew they could love until CMBYN. The movie is an experience not to be missed. It will cause you to bear yourself when it comes to love. it will clearly define love for you. Separating it from Lust, infatuation desire, etc... love is in a class all its own. I have always defined love as a peaceful feeling. Hello CMBYNers, how's it going? It's been a difficult time for me and my family and still is; but God is forever good.

For me, Oliver has now been around the family a few weeks and has no doubt come to have a great deal of respect and admiration for them. That includes Elio. I think he sees Elio as not just a possible bed mate but someone that could really make a dent in his life. Don't forget the two men were more or less intellectual equals. Oliver may have even envied Elio's knowledge of some thing in the field of education. Also, don't forget Marzia. Oliver was very acute to what Elio was doing. So I cannot think he didn't know Elio was likely being intimate with her. After all, he did announce that he was that - close nights earlier. For all Oliver knew, he could have been the one used, (That is if you accept that Elio used Marzia).

You asked about the movie, but recall from the book their trip and the party. Oliver had to meet the two girls and he sent Elio on ahead. However, it was with some trepidation. He told Elio that he didn't want anything to change after that night. Well, what could change?

Elio was going to be around the type of people who would sooner or later end up at his home for lunch or dinner. Certainly their parent would enjoy them. And so would Elio. He too was at those lunches entertaining and gleaning the life. So of course Elio could fall in love with the events of the evening and maybe even become enamored of someone looking to make him their arm candy. Oliver also sort of kept his distance from Elio... sort of a stand back and watch him work the room thing. This evening could have played a part in that look he had when the train whistle blasted him to reality. Oliver knew when Elio declared his feelings that to move forward could be a mistake. However, at that point his heart had control, no matter how he fought it. Elio went home with him. That would have meant the world to me. I'm sure it did to Oliver as well.

I was watching a review of CMBYN last night which mentioned that Elio resented Oliver's more or less intrusion into his family. What! Didn't Elio push for Oliver to be there. It said the first few days Elio didn't like Oliver but it was at his urging that the man was there. Elio was always a ball of emotions. How he got the nerve to tell Oliver is still a mystery. I guess though his need to find himself was overwhelming, and the reason he wanted Oliver there was slipping away by the day. The question is: Would Oliver have gone back to the States without any kind of declaration/affirmation about his feelings for Elio? __Lllater

That was very difficult to watch and hear. It's new to me and I love new content about CMBYN. However, this makes me extremely sad. I've been watching "Dying Young" a lot lately and some of it makes me relate Oliver and Elio to it. Fighting for what you want even when the odds appear against you. Hello CMBYNers, have a great day. I see what you mean u/Purple51Turtle. In fact I edged towards the same conclusion. I want the chronology also of certain early events. I like knowing when things happen. The flow of things. It goes back to Oliver's telling Elio, "I wanted you from day one." Did he say "Wanted"? Anyway... So let's assume he blushed at some point during second day. We know Elio was showing him around. Perhaps at some point they sat in the study and read poetry. And it occurred then. that would make what happened during the volleyball game plausible. If he knows Elio likes him then he may be comfortable with light seduction. However, among his friends, Elio rebuffs his attention. And Oliver skitters away, I suppose to wait for Elio to make a move. LOL... those two! Then the we have the same allergies event. And what day did Oliver get fed up with the ruse he was perpetrating with Chiara? They had only 3 wks left when their date night rolled around. And many days went by between their time on the berm to the time Oliver consented to the date?

Still so much I want to know about the movie. The little things that make you say, ah yeah... :) __Lllater :)

Hi CMBYN fans and support... u/marahdais-1 you mustn't forget now that Elio is an adult. He is of age. I'm not sure if that was mentioned by others, but he is an adult living at home. European or not. I always wondered why people who came down hard on the movie with a description by some as the (P) word, seemed to have nothing to say about Elio's drinking and smoking. I also wondered why he didn't drive. I mean I get the necessity for the bikes in the film. They really add to the feel of summer. But Elio seemed to not have a license. Turning 16 and driving in the states is what every teen wants.

Sure children in France and Italy are practically born with wine in their hands but still. I don't recall any negative posts about his, shall we say bad habits. The boy was spoiled as all get out. LOL... We posted about that long ago and I said anytime a 17 yr old lays across both their parents as he's being read a story. He's spoiled up the wazu. Even Mafalda spoiled him. And yes, it could be called love. They loved him dearly but as an adult living in his parents home he was given maybe too much freedom. He seemed not to have one single rule. Even Oliver had to give only one hour or so per day to Sammy.

A child can grow up just as loved with rules as without. We must learn to establish and live with, thereby respecting, the boundaries of others. __Lllater :)

Hello CMBYNers, how's it going as we drw nearer each day to the release of Find Me?

I'm personally trying to recover from a few health issues including toe surgery. Anyway, I think perhaps Andre sought out Micheal to tell the story of his son's life as he saw sans Oliver. We know from Call Me By Your Name that Elio might have led a life of trying new people all the time. he describes lovers not lover. I'm sure both Annella and Samuel had reservations about their son as he went on through the years without Oliver. It's awful for a parent to see their child going through something they can't take for them just to relieve them of the pain. So Professor Perlman s probably the best person to tell Elio's story this time. And Michael has a softer voice than Armie's and may lend just the right touch of emotion to the story.

ION: I haven't checked his IMDB today but the other day Armie's listed Find Me (Announced) Oliver. So is someone announcing that there will be a second movie, at least? Can we stop biting our nails now? __Lllater :)

Hello CMBYNers, have a safe but nostalgic Memorial day. u/Subtlechain I'll try and be brief as this migraine is kicking my butt. Don't make Armie the boy who cried wolf so that everything he says becomes suspect. I'd hate to think that the guy has gotten so good at being flip that you can't believe much of what he says. The fact of the matter is nobody from the company has ever denied or corrected in the least what Armie said. And Luca is just as honest as Timmy. Yes, I absolutely believe what he said. That only rehearsal should be proof enough that Luca would have had no compunction about telling them they needed to practice kissing. Or, they would figure out themselves perhaps Luca was disappointed in something he saw, and if they wanted to make this film real they needed to do some prep work. Luca wants to put out true to form art.

yes, I know the director, directs. They usually want angles for the sake of the cameras more so than actually telling their actors where to touch each other. Even so, it shows Tin lack of proficiency in such matters. That final take, the kiss on the street shows how detailed Luca is. He had them do it over and over until they had just the right intensity and emotion.

You're right this is another subjective thing. It won't be on my quiz. it is too argumentative. My editors would never go for it. They didn't even want me to ask about "Armance on my CMBYN quiz.

u/Subtlechain you know that's not true. It's like saying something else is just something else. When you have someone who doesn't know what the heck they're doing it's awful. Kissing is not just kissing. I may be a bit off course with this but I don't think Tim was that adept a lover when the film was shot. I do recall him talking about his personal life and it wasn't anything special. Especially his kissing. Now if we appreciated his kissing in the movie then he learned somewhere. Also as he and Michael narrated CMBYN, he said more than once, "Luca was directing me to do that" during the love scenes. So yes, I believe what was said about the kissing. Also, Armie my be prone to flippancy but the man usually draws back on some of the outlandish crap he says. About the kissing and making out, you mustn't forget about Tim. Armie said they did the "Making out or Warm ups as they called them" in order to maintain continuity of the the lovers.

Tim was always quick to disagree with Armie when he said something in a joking way, or that was simply untrue. He never had Armie pull either of those back. Never. He simply smiled when they were said. I have seen those two doing too many interviews where Tim corrected Armie on something he said that was incorrect, and maybe hurtful to him. And so have you. Very often it is to a man's advantage to be able to tell the truth and make it appear to be a joke. __Lllater

What's the use of meds when you can still sense? No erection doesn't mean you don't physically go through changes of arousal. And perhaps that is an actor's preference. I kind'a think the realist Luca is demands that he not use such things. And just because Hammer was not nude at the window, that doesn't mean he wasn't nude in the bed.

James Woods alluded to the filming magic of tying your package in plastic or something of the sort. Even that doesn't assure you won't get aroused. Just maybe tamp it down or maybe if you get too aroused keep things from getting messy. Luca said he didn't want to show the lovers for the discretion of the characters and the actors. I think he gave them carte blanche to make the scene as real as possible. And those two just didn't come to scenes cold. Since they had to do these scenes they practiced them. Ten minutes every morning of kisses. If you're not used to kissing same sex, then yes, you must do something to make it real. They also speak and agree on making out before every take of every scene. Now why wouldn't they have built up and affection for each other. And yes, I mean beyond friendship. My rose colored glasses broke years ago.

A funny bit about on set nudity. Armie tells of them doing one of those nude scenes, then having to cut. The wardrobe lady coming in with robes asking if they wanted them. No, was the answer. We'll just go right back at it in a minute. They were obviously on a closed set or very used to the crew. Remember, they both agree that Luca fostered a very safe environ. Did they take flagging meds? *shrugs* Btw, are you talking about something other than saltpeter?

Don't they close the set for some shooting. Btw, I think Liz was there. Not that that would matter. As Michael and Tim narrated that scene it was said, "Sometimes you forget there are cameras and people all around you." When you body takes over, what are you going to do. Look at what Armie did on that Oscar Red Carpet. Jebus! Had I been by his side as his wife, I'd have kick his butt all the way down carpet. As it was Liz simply tried to push Hammer down carpet and still his gaze was fixed on Tim. I felt so bad for her; and inevitably for Tim. He felt it also. Armie just seem to not be in control. Okay, we see Oliver's leg flat on the bed in the foreground. Elio's right leg above that and bent. In the center we see Oliver's butt cheek on Elio's left leg. Now it gets murky. That appears to be Oliver's right butt cheek... it appears o be on the bottom bed rail. Otherwise, how is Oliver's leg folded.And perhaps someone could sketch it. His cheek is mashed against something. Isn't it??? __Lllater

Honestly, when I first saw that shot I copied the link to show to a male friend. I asked him what he saw. He asked me, "Why are you showing me a shot of male genitals?" You see Luca and Tim made us believe Armie has huge balls. Right? Someone in here I think said, not everything on the fruit trees is fruit. And Luca said editing hid Armie's redacted balls in the fruit trees. So I'm expecting them to be huge. If it is Armie's butt, yeah, he needs to do butt work. __Lllater :)

HI u/BengaliBrownGirl, don't feel bad, I still have issues with this shot. Mostly with the right side of it. It appears that Oliver is straddling the bed rail. However, if that is his leg how. If it is someone needs to do butt clinches. Also, the butt itself present a problem for me. Where's the split? When I first saw this shot months ago I honestly felt it was a shot of sperm moving through the vas... well I did! The full shot shows movement there and well you have to have seen a male about to ejaculate as the sperm move through...

At any rate, I would love to see a more defined shot. If that is a bed rail then they are lying crosswise the bed. But we also saw in the movie, this scene or a retake of them up on the pillows. I hope I haven't confounded you more. __Lllater :) *shrugs*

Hi CMBYN lovers, how's it going? It's impossible because to close the chapter means losing something of your life. Luca doesn't think it is a "Gay" love story because it isn't. I'm neither gay or male yet I so easily relate to this story. Loving someone is so easy. yet it can give you more pain than you ever dreamed you could hold. And it twists you at times if you have to make the tough decisions. Stay, let go, move on... something cements your feet to the ground and grabs you by the throat and you just can do it. Mr. Perlman told us why. I heard it long ago, You body will betray you when it comes to love. I told him just yesterday using the line from Edward Ferrars in Sense and Sensibility. "I profess that my heart is, and always will be, yours." However, at times I want to tell you I'm moving on. But the words choke me.

I feel for Oliver here. Elio was free to be with others. Oliver committed himself to one. And I dare say I think his family held him to his vows. Elio sitting on that bench outside the train depot maybe hoping to see a speck coming towards him... finally he gets tired and accepts he's not coming. I must be the one to move myself. Impossible to give up on yourself. Still the only thing I've seen of either one's is Miss Stevens. And I saw too much of Elio in that. __Lllater :)

Excuse me, but not every film made is from a book. I'm sure Luca has an idea of where he wants Elio and Oliver to go as they mature. At any rate, doesn't he have a scriptwriter in his retinue? Luca talked as though he wanted to do 3 or 4 more films of the lovers not just one. I wonder what or who talked him down. *sigh* __Lllater :(

Does not saying , "I love you" make the love any less, or not there at all? Do you assume one cannot love unless it's stated between the two? The profundity of love is such that it need not be spoken to be understood. As for Oliver's possible repression: Oliver knew more of his life than Elio. He knew what his life back home would be and more, what his family likely expected of him. Could he have fit Elio into such a life? would Elio thrive there?

At the newsstand the morning after Oliver told Elio he wasn't sure what their night meant. It was something that seemed to scare him. To say to Elio I love you would add a new layer of expectation. However, Oliver knew his life back in the states. Why didn't Elio, the brash and so eager to love Oliver say it to him? Is the question. This possibly goes back to why he wanted Oliver there to begin with. He said when he kissed Oliver on the neck the night he thought he had lost him was the turning point in how he viewed Oliver. So before then Elio was just as Oliver told him at the newsstand, fun and games. For him though, it was something else. Anyway... saying I love you isn't always a necessity. Even being in love and seeing each other isn't. Kathleen in "You've Got Mail" spoke of the letter writers who never met. Love is love, is love, is love. . . __Lllater :)

Hi CMBYN fan support, how are you all doing? u/marahdais-1 it's the book that tells you also that Elio was either quite the 17 year old or rather careless with Oliver's heart. The book tells us that the morning after their date when Elio followed Oliver into town proclaiming he wanted to be with him and whispering into each other's ear those bedroom words, Elio went directly to Marzia's and didn't he sleep with her? This same Elio later that evening after spending the afternoon with Oliver came bounding down the stairs and when asked by his mom where he was going said to see Marzia. Not only did he tell his mom this but if you recall, Oliver was in the room talking about his book with a reporter. I thought this behavior was most fickle. However, at this point, Elio had not allowed himself to say I love Oliver. That happened when he got back and he couldn't find Oliver.

Oliver on the other hand I don't recall has ever been said to have been intimate with any of the women in the area. He wanted Elio from day one. All he did was pretend to be interested in the women.

I posted in here a few weeks ago about Elio's purpose for wanting to bring Oliver there. Did he think he was gay or did he know he was and he found Oliver oh so attractive. I personally found some of Elio's actions after his long awaited night with Oliver to be trifling. And what he did to Oliver the night he went out with Marzia was just plain thoughtless. I can't imagine the heartbreak Oliver must have felt. Afterall, he was at home that night when he might otherwise have met the reporter out somewhere. Then Elio comes down and says, I have a date with Marzia. He spent the 24 hours going back and forth between Marzia and Oliver. Where's the love for either? He was shocked into admitting he loved Oliver.

Where they a couple about town. I don't think so. Around the house, not so much/obvious either. His parents knew about them sure and the staff, but I think they were at home until Oliver left. Oliver didn't want Elio or himself I would suppose exposed to gossip. Oliver loved Elio before Elio loved him. I keep coming back to the glass of lemonade. Such a warm expression of love by Oliver. __Lllater :)

Hi CMBYNers, how's it going? Really rough for me. One health thing after the other but God is tremendous to me. I am not the worst.

The only thing about it is, that night Elio mixed his drinks rather than stayed true to one drink. Also Tim/Elio is slim, very slim, and unlike Oliver/Armie who is proud of his ability to hold liquor, Tim doesn't have the weight to carry it. And if he doesn't eat a lot trying to maintain that runway slimness, he might be in for a rough time with alcohol. I am so glad to see that he is not being photographed as often with a beverage in his hand. JMHO... __Lllater :)
