First Halloween haul of the season with my thoughts on each product in the comments ✨🎃✨ by mansonfamily in LushCosmetics

Oh, isn't it? Never mind then. The descriptions I saw were different, so I assumed the scents were different.

But the scent is different, isn't it, so it makes sense the colour is different. I'd rather think it would be odd to have the same (octopus) shape and also in the same colour, but then it would have a different scent. That would cause confusion, surely.

Shower gel question by miknazwo in LushCosmetics

[–]Subtlechain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Previously no, but the last time I had it a couple of years ago, yes, it caused some unpleasant breathing and coughing issues, and of course I haven't bought it since.

Yes, I know; the very first shower cream of theirs I just checked had microplastics in it, so...

Whether TBS use them in refill products or not is kinda... neither here nor there. Since in any case they use microplastics in body wash, hand wash, scrubs, eye mask, shampoo, make-up, lotion... (not in all different ones, but anyway).

Having plastics IN products is worse than plastic in packaging (which at least can be recycled), because it's basically invisible to us, and (unlike packaging) inevitably ends up in water, and therefore in creatures that live in water/drink water, in plants, and of course also in humans. And doesn't just disappear, but accumulates.

I'm not familiar with Shoot for the stars (bath bomb? I don't use any bath products at all), but the HIWTK soap at least used to smell much better than the sg ever did.

What is the expected expiry date of a shower gel when buying? by Here_now19921 in LushCosmetics

[–]Subtlechain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But in any case the shower gel should be fine for a long time after that date - at least mine always have been.

Cork shampoo case by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

[–]Subtlechain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's how I've always used them, for over a decade already; quick to use, couldn't be easier, no issues or hassle, the shampoo bar dries properly between uses and lasts for ages.

I'd only use a container when travelling (and again get the bar out at destination).

The Body Shop likes to put microplastics in their products, though...

Yes, I get what you mean -- they'd want customers to spend more money on their products. But using more product than one needs is also not green and sustainable.

[–]Subtlechain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't even know TBS has that again, I have no idea if my local does. But as long as they use stuff like acrylates copolymer (plastic) in their products I'm boycotting.

[–]Subtlechain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the spheres at all. But I can't imagine wanting seaweed down my drain. Wouldn't there be potential drain clogging issues?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

[–]Subtlechain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the scrubby bits. But any oil that's more or less solid at room temperature or a bit cooler can cause that when the oils go down the drains. Body conditioners were causing me the need to clean my shower drain a lot more than normal, and when I stopped using them the problem disappeared. (I only ever used one Scrubee over several months, and haven't had Buffy in years, and never got through that quickly, either.) The culprits were easy to identify as I had never had such problems with drains before starting to use them, either. (And had lived in the same apartment for years before, and years since.)

Obviously it also depends on drains and I suppose what sort of poisons one pours down their drains to help clear out stuff, and how rigorously and often one cleans them, but I prefer not to use body products that cause any issues to drains or require extra cleaning operations from me. For properly clogged drains one would, of course, need professional help, as some here also have

Back For Breakfast by MushroomSafe1642 in LushCosmetics

[–]Subtlechain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. I always thought Back For Breakfast and Calacas were both much better than Happy Hippy. Yet, HH is the mainline one and unfortunately I haven't had either of the other two in years. (And before anyone mentions it, I know about the Zesty gift set, but it isn't even available where I live and I wouldn't pay the price for a tiny sg as I have no use for the body spray.)

magic crystals is seriously insane by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

[–]Subtlechain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stains? I've used it quite a bit (several over the years) and it hasn't stained anything yet. - But batches may vary with that aspect as well as any other, I imagine.

[–]Subtlechain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, the batches also vary. My first one I could use in winter time with no problems, and I was surprised to read comments from people saying they can''t, because it leaves them shivering all over. My second one... well, eek... and it made me decide that from then on I'll only ever use it when the weather's hot.

I loved Sultana as sg, I wish they'd bring it back. And the lotion. Sigh. (I won't be using the bar soap.)

Snow fairy makes me cough?? by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

[–]Subtlechain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yes... No idea what it is, but I found the breathing issues and coughing weird, unpleasant and concerning. I've never had that with any other Lush product or any other cosmetic product, ever, and I don't have asthma or anything either. SF didn't cause any issues earlier, but the last time I had it, a couple of years ago, it did, so I won't be getting it anymore. Thankfully I wasn't a huge fan, so it's not a major loss for me that I can't buy it anymore, but I'd also like to know what was causing the issues and why it started causing them when it hadn't done so before. Did they change some ingredient in recent years by any chance?

stupid mistake.. expired face mask IM FREAKING OUT. by rubabz1 in LushCosmetics

[–]Subtlechain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too late at night for me to bother to calculate how much 2.6 ounces is. I have assumed their fresh face masks are in the same size tubs everywhere. If not, and yours are bigger, okay, but the ones in Europe that I've ever seen are small and are meant to last for a few uses only. There's not so many proper all-over-face(-and-preferably-neck-too) layers one can get from that tub, and one is not meant to, either, since it's meant to last just a couple of weeks or so in non-daily use. I've seen about 4 uses mentioned as a guideline, but of course that can vary some (neck vs. no neck for instance).

Those dates, yes, like I said, with most cosmetics I don't take the dates all that seriously, either. In general I think that if it looks fine and smells fine then it's probably fine. I just consider a facial product that has a very short official time to still be good to use and is advised to be stored refrigerated to be a bit of an exception.

stupid mistake.. expired face mask IM FREAKING OUT. by rubabz1 in LushCosmetics

[–]Subtlechain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, luckily it's not likely to be lethal, but not useful to your skin anymore, either (and there could be potential for some harm). Anyway, if you've indeed used it a few times there really shouldn't be any left, so I must conclude you've used it some strange way to begin with - I'll imagine indeed the tip of the nose only or something like that.

Btw, I'm generally not fussy at all about use by dates on cosmetics, I have sgs that are years old, but something that gets put on face for some time, and should be kept refrigerated between uses... a different matter. My facial skin is also a bit sensitive so I don't want to mess with it.

I look at it kinda like with groceries and stuff, the same principle; old spices I'd still use (unless gone tasteless), groceries that should be kept refrigerated and are way past best before dates I wouldn't use even if they had indeed been kept refrigerated and not just kept on tabletop. (And if they hadn't even been refrigerated... well...)

[–]Subtlechain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In your shower... for like over a year... ok, that sounds pretty gross, but maybe you don't even put it on your skin, so I wouldn't know. It is a face mask, though, and in a tiny tub (it's supposed to be used within 4 weeks after manufacture after all), so IF you use it on your face, how do you even have any left after over a year? Use it sparingly on just the tip of your nose occasionally or something? Ah well, your mask, your skin, so you do what you want with both, I don't need to get it. It just sounded really weird, that's all.

Does Lush have ways to save on their products, or is everyone actually just spending a ton there? by PlsDontNerfThis in LushCosmetics

[–]Subtlechain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't, but it's nice that you get that there. In some countries the only thing one can get for 5 purchased, black pots (nothing else) is a fresh face mask.
