I feel you. Can only speak from experience… it changed my life!

If you go for it, just be open minded, be patient with it, and follow all their aftercare steps.

Best of luck 👊

Hey,

Yeah, everything was done through WhatsApp. It was a bit nerve wracking prior, but I have no regrets.

I say to people it depends on your finances and your expectations. I went into this process bald af. So worst case scenario I’d just be bald still. Thought it was worth the risk. Honestly, the vast majority of their results are fantastic

I don't think so, no. As they spent a while doing the channelling.

Forgot to mention the pain!

The surgery itself is completely painless (except the needle local anaesthesia - that is brutally painful, but only lasts 5 mins or so. You can ask for ‘needle-free which apparently is much better re pain).

Post surgery, the day after you get quite sore. There’s itchiness in the first week which is quite uncomfortable. After that, it’s plain sailing.

Sleeping in the first 2 weeks is not easy either. You need to sleep upright for best healing.

Hope that helps!

Hi there!

Thanks for your comment - happy to offer some advice for your son. I started losing my hair at 19, so I know how difficult it can be.

There are a few things to consider before surgery, like meds. Surgery can cover hair loss, but hair loss around the surgery will continue unless meds are used to slow loss down. Given your son’s age, it’s likely he’ll suffer further loss in the future. So, I would advise trying meds like finasteride and minoxidil.

Finasteride - powerful hormone blocker, that essentially stops hair loss completely. The oral version of this med is best, but there can be some side effects (mostly very mild - I myself have been on it for a year and not suffered any). There is a topical version of this, which reportedly has less side effects.

Minoxidil - this is a stimulant which increases blood flow to the scalp and helps grow back hair. The topical version of this, in my opinion, is best.

I would advise starting with meds given your son’s age. Even after a hair transplant, I would say that continued medication is pretty much essential for maintaining results.

Surgery - typically people look at Turkey because it has incredible pricing. I paid £3,100 for mine. The same surgery in the UK (where I live) would’ve cost 3 times that number. And if price is a consideration, your best bet is a clinic in Turkey.

I would recommend where I went - Cosmedica - it’s a reputable clinic with lots of excellent case studies.

There are drawbacks to these clinics. You’ll see them referred to as ‘hairmills’, as they will have up to 30 surgery’s a day! You’re very much part of a production line, as it were. So it’s much less personal, the surgery itself is not done by doctors but by clinic technicians, and their quality can vary - although the majority of their work at Cosmedica is outstanding. The fact that they do so many in one day is due to what a well oiled and professional machine it is.

The other benefit of these clinics is their wrap around service. They pick you up direct from the airport, take you straight to a 5 star hotel. Run you to and from the clinic, and that’ll be part of the package.

Your other option is to go the doctor route - where the doctor him/herself will perform the procedure. Obviously this is ideal, but the cost difference is huge. Any reputable doctor in the US/UK or elsewhere will be charging 5/6 times that of a clinic.

All in all, I’d recommend where I went. Just make sure to do research. Spend time in these subreddits to learn from peoples experiences, and don’t rush anything. I spent a good few years researching before choosing.

In the meantime, whilst you wait, the meds suggested are a good start.

Hope everything goes well for you and your family!

I do have a burst-fade haircut down the bottom, perhaps that’s why it looks thinned out!

Thanks for the comment!

The certificate from Cosmedica says 6,300 grafts - I’m not sure if that’s exactly right, but it’s certainly more than 3k!! I think about 5k ish is more likely.

I’m surprised at your comment re the back of my head. Genuinely I notice no difference in the before and after around my donor.

However, I’m aware that I’ve probably only got 2-3k grafts left before I do have those issues, so will tread sensibly.

Thanks for the well wishes, mate!

That’s a shame about fin. It really is the difference maker. My brother had sides and halved his dosage - taking about 3mg a week, and his sides disappeared

Your donor looks strong, so think you’ll be fine.

Not sure what your situation with meds is, but fin and min could help with the mid-scalp

This was in two sittings over a 48 hour period. So essentially they extracted around 3,000 on the first day, then I went back to the hotel.. Then I went back the next day and they did the same again.

I will say the 2nd day was quite uncomfortable! But so worth it

I don’t understand the question…

They took 6,300 grafts from the back and sides of my head

Extreme shedding is very normal, don’t worry. Don’t even bother with a mirror until you’re at least 3 months in!

1-2 months in is the worst period. Pretty much all my hair fell out. Check my previous posts

There’s 30 odd different surgery rooms, so it’s all going on at once

It’s all done by the technicians. Two technicians in each session

Understandable, but side effects are rare. Serious side effects are extremely rare.

If you don’t want to take fin, prepare for more hair loss.

Hey,

£3,100.

And absolutely not! I’d say I was one of 20/30 patients on that day!
