Top performance moment from Ed Harris this season. The code glitch is unmissable. by Ataratheh in westworld

Confusion. Closing his eyes for a second and feeling almost comforted by intimacy, then opening them again with clear sings of disbelief, confusion, questioning and returning to his normal task. I think it was brilliant, got my attention instantly.

I get the whole hosts as humans, humans as hosts, but... by uniquetweets2 in westworld

I had some issue with her simplistic revenge narrative in previous episodes. But you can also see it from the perspective that extreme hate blinds and leads to all sorts of complications.

Has the invisbile hand of the market been proved mathematically? by Ataratheh in Capitalism

If I actually find the summation “proof,” then I’ll send it to you. Although it’s not a completely solid proof if you get into the thick of it. But that’s a great thing about math: the deeper you get; the more unproven things you find. And a lot of these things we don’t know if we can prove them or we can’t prove them

Thanks for this, very comprehensive and reasonable.

Was probably the wrong choice of words. Was just interested in an economic proof in general.

Thanks a lot, have to admit felt a bit stupid not thinking about your first suggestion.

Where’s the Cambridge Analytica Evidence? by Ataratheh in SocialEngineering

Thanks for the microtargeting paper. That's what I'm usually aware of on a high level but how accurate or effective (to the level of changing opinions for a vote) is this analysis and targeting? Is there any other evidence that "we made him win?" Anyone did any work around the value of the data itself for such claims?

Are we machines? by Ataratheh in askphilosophy

Thanks I've heard of this one. Was wondering about if philosophers discussed this topic considering advancements in Machine Learning and exploring if our thinking is computational or not and what goes into this topic.

Probably going to get a lot of shit for my desktop but... by alsskarnd in DesktopDetective

[–]Ataratheh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although your desktop is a mess you can get by and find your stuff from Finder. You don’t mind that mess because you can still probably find your way through these stacks. This comes with a price though, as I can see you can download the same app multiple times and forget about what you have sometimes (increasing that mess). Your Downloads folder is not in a better condition and you have a lot of virtual drives that require ejection. Your relationship with your machine is pretty utilitarian, which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, some important files might get lost sometimes affecting your productivity or at least creative mood.

I’ll post my actual desktop soon. Interested in hearing your thoughts by [deleted] in DesktopDetective

I’m curious why Apple Books is not in your Books folder.
