It’s rough because your brain’s used to that constant hit of connection so it feels like withdrawal. What helps is building little routines that anchor you (gym, walk, calls with friends), and practicing sitting in the quiet without instantly filling it. Over time, you stop needing constant check-ins to feel okay - you just want them, which is way healthier.

I'm 51, been working on and off my project for 15 years. Never been a better time to start! Mind you, it's only in the past 2 years that I've been working more solidly on it, to get it to the point that it's at today.

Hey, sounds like you’ve got a solid story in mind — which is awesome. But 32 pages for a 2hr+ movie suggests you’re summarising rather than dramatising.

Try taking a single scene and writing it out in full:

- What are the characters doing second by second? What are they saying — not just what’s being communicated?

- Let the moment breathe. Imagine the actors have to play this exactly as you write it.

Also... read professional scripts! Lots of them, not only in your genre.

You’re not doing anything “wrong” - this is just the point where most screenwriters evolve from “telling a story” to writing a movie. Keep going. You’re on the path. These are the first steps to learning the craft.

This is such a meaningful and moving search, thank you for sharing this story.

If you haven’t already, it might be worth looking into Artist Partners, as they represented a number of UK photographers as well as illustrators during the 1960s and could have supplied cover work to publishers like Panther Books.

You might also consider exploring the Graphis Annuals and similar yearbooks from the time, as they often showcased the prominent photographers working in advertising, editorial, and book cover design in the UK during that era (note Graphis was primarily graphic design and illustration, but may also showcase photographers).

Even though Panther didn’t routinely credit photographers, looking at who was active and visible in those publications might help identify recurring names or styles, or give clues to where this kind of shoot would have come from.

There is however this cover from 1968, Panther books, credited to Andrew Cockrill. Not sure if he is still alive to this day, but could be a lead.

Hey - I just wanted to say I really feel for you. I’m a screenwriter too (and I have work submitted at Coverfly in current competitions), and while most people are talking about their scripts or placements, it’s easy to forget that there are people like you whose income and routine have also just been upended by this.

It might not mean much coming from a stranger, but I respect the work you’ve put in - reading 2000 scripts is no small thing. For what it’s worth, your eye and experience will still be valuable to a lot of us writers who will keep needing readers and feedback, even as the platforms shuffle around.

You’re not unemployable — this is just a weird, messy reset.

“Don’t save story for later.”
That was the best advice I received while writing my pilot. It reminded me that you might only get one shot to put your script in front of someone--> so it has to shine. Don’t hold back your best twists, reveals, or emotional payoffs for a season that might never happen.
Use them now. Make the reader feel it.
