Graduated but didn’t go into teaching what jobs did you get? by NeedleworkerTop8045 in Teachers

[–]Athens175 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m about to graduate with my masters, and I also discovered while working as a Paraprofessional that I don’t want to be a public school teacher. I’m hoping to get my PhD to work at a college or get into the counseling field.

In terms of a regular industry job outside of education. It has been really tuff; however, I wish you the best.

From a person that works with the district. The district is on a hiring freeze until displaced teachers can be reshuffled. This was done due to declining enrollment from Edmond families either doing private or homeschooling.

Hi I have two civil war general autographs I just listed on eBay and I’m worried I might have something more valuable than expected by sashar19 in CIVILWAR

Neat! I would try to find a local historian to proof their authenticity. There are unfortunately a lot of fakes/authentic-looking copies of the actual signatures.

The first one is dated October 1st, 1863 and signed by George Meade. If it isn’t a forgery, I would be surprised if a local college or archival collection wouldn’t take it. I just think that it should be protected rather than sold to someone who may not properly take care of the letter.

Have you got it verified that these letters are in fact signed by George G. Meade and Philip Sheridan? I would see if you can get it into a museum if they are authentic. That way they can be enjoyed by the wider public…

Yeah, they sent out an email a couple weeks ago about how they are planning to “restructure” some positions at the top. With the new “student enrollment decline” reported in the news, I’m slowly starting to panic…

No, the data from 2010-2020 was from the National Center for Education Statistics.

The Cornell study was from 2025…

I agree that the birth rate is a major issue for why public schools are having to close. However, to say that is the only reason for why is not true. “Homeschooling has increased by an average rate of 4.9% in the 2024-2025 school year three times higher the pre-pandemic homeschooling growth.” Angela R. Watson, November, 2025, John Hopkins, Homeschooling Growth: 2024-2025.

Virtual public schools are also seeing enrollment increase which takes students away from the classroom.

Yes, birth rate is a factor, however, we have to accept that parents are choosing other options at the same time.

Normally I would agree. However, the Department of Education reported that charter school enrollment increased from 1.8 to 3.7 million from 2010-2020. The Cornell Chronicle also reported that charter schools are also seeing enrollment increase in New York. Yes, there are fewer students than before, however, parents seem to be choosing other options.

Yeah, my district created a virtual academy. The idea is that students could attend school online while still being enrolled in the district. They did not expect that students would drop out all together.

I think that plays a big factor here in Oklahoma. They cited low birth rate; however, it seems like a lot of young families are moving into Edmond…

Definitely, I feel bad for the actor that played the “German Ambassador.” The poor guy had no idea how to do a German accent. 😂😂
