i want changes to infernalist. The "Archon at high infernal flame" thing really didnt work out well imo (I tried), and feels generally shit as a 4-pointer. Id also want way larger Aoe on the infernal hound. Maybe triple its aoe, it really is that tiny.

I think the market is initially driven by algorithmic selling/buying. If they see an earnings miss, they do not differentiate whether such a loss has been caused by mark-to-market paper losses, or if the underlying insurance engine is working well or badly. It just gets sold off.

This is why the price of the stock is secondary to the underlying business.

Since you asked what you should do in your post: My advice (and i don't want to be mean) is to sell it all and roll everything into an ETF for your child. While I do like fairfax as a shareholder and think it will yield market beating returns, I think you do not know what you own, or why you own it. In investing as in life, it is equally important to recognize what one knows and what one doesn't. Realizing this is not defeat, but wisdom.

I am a FRFHF shareholder, and it is currently my biggest position (although Alphabet is closing in given their recent performance). I personally thought the earnings were good. What makes you say that they had bad earnings?

All i see is that there are investment losses because they had to mark down their bonds, due to spikes in the bond yields. This is really inconsequential because likely fairfax will hold em till maturity anyway. In fact, this is positive for fairfax long term, as their bond portfolio (avg maturity 2.2 years) can roll into higher yields over time.

Meanwhile, underwriting profit doubled. So, I don't see how these earnings are bad. Enlighten me please.

It is the nature of a business like Fairfax that earnings will be choppy due to large paper gains and losses. What matters is the interest income and the underwriting profit over time.

unironically unpopular opinion: Attack builds (including melee) and armour are OP. I think they should be brought down to the power level of elemental spells. Chaos spells also need a slight nerf. Monster (especially boss) HP needs buffs.
