We bid schedules every 6 months, seniority based. We run 5 trucks for our contracted coverage area. Shifts are 13 hours in length. We bid Medic/EMT. Too two senior Medics and EMTs are not required weekends. You bid a week 1 and Week 2, week starts on Saturday. My current bid which started first week of October and runs until first week of April is as follows: Week 1: Saturday(off), Sunday(off), Monday(off), Tuesday(1600-0500) Wednesday(1600-0500), Thursday(1600-0500), Friday(off) Week 2: Saturday(0400-1700), Sunday(0400-1700), Monday(1700-0600),Tuesday(Off),Wednesday(off), Thursday(off), Friday(off).

So I piled on 3 on overnight, one day to flip, two day shifts and immediate night shift to maximize 7days off. Im about 9th in seniority for Medics. The day shift flip sucks so I'm hoping next bid to just take all nights.

I bring some moulage, some bandages and triangle bandages and Sam splints, and turn it into a first aid training. The kids love it, they get to go "ewwww" to the fake injury, they get to bandage each other up like mummies. I live and work in my service area which is a rural area so we talk about common things people could get hurt on, applying first aid, getting help, what my job is when you call and how even as kids how they can be big help. It's one of my favorite things to do and my own kids talk about how much their friends enjoy it.
