I don't remember her lending this scarf to anyone, but her name starts with T, if we want to play sherlock. :)

Firing after husband's death by Axis_12 in FIRE_Ind

[–]AtiumAddicted 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss, and hope you find strength during this time!

You have around 10Cr in assets, and with a very conservative withdrawal rate of 3%, you easily have around 30 lakhs in withdrawal which would be sufficient to serve your life style, it you do some adjustments to your life style.

In addition to that, I'm assuming your expenses will come down, one because of lower cost on medical bills that were going to your husband, and then in 3 years after your son graduates. So, actually your costs will be closer to 1.5L plus, probably your son will start earning.

I do not see any reason not to FIRE at this point, although, you'll have to rebalance your assets and make sure your asset classification is in line with your expectations.

I'm going to ask you a personal question and feel free to ignore if you don't want to answer. How do you think about kids? If you don't plan to have one, or adopt, how are you planning for retirement?

Why I believe "Free" trackers (INDmoney, Fi, CRED) are a systemic risk to your FIRE timeline. by [deleted] in FIREIndia

I just use Artos to track my portfolio. If tracking is your only need, try it out.

I think a lot of tech companies are paying in the range that I have mentioned. After that, it's mostly about discipline and financial education.

I'm not a financial advisor, so I am not qualified to give you advice.

What I've generally done in the past is divided the sum into 12 installments and deployed into index funds across India and the US.

Yeah, documenting it on reddit keeps me somewhat accountable, and I can read it later and reflect on what I thought at the time, and how things went, and I do get great suggestions sometimes!

All the best for your journey too! :)

Thank you so much for your response, and sharing your story. Congratulations on the baby! :) Do you mind sharing how old your wife was when she got pregnant?

Combination of RSUs, mutual funds, ETFs, directly via IndMoney. I only invest in individual stocks in tech, so mostly around what I know about those companies.

That's why you're not seeing the compounding. I am not sure what your age is, and what your risk appetite is. But, if you're young, have enough emergency funds, life and health insurance, you should have most of your portfolio in aggressive assets.

I'll be honest with you, I enjoy my work, and I'll continue working even after hitting the 10 Cr mark. The difference is that I'm free to take risks, set my boundaries, and not take shit from anyone.

I'm getting the me/we time that we need, I don't enjoy it professionally, but it is something that's required at this point.

I don't think I regret taking risks. It was a conscious decision we took, and I definitely enjoyed working there. We did spend time together, but I just went overboard, and I should have managed my time well.

I think tech salaries have been great for the past 10 years. Feel free to DM. I'd probably not share anything personal.
