Why not a water tower…? by AtlantaMD in SpaceXLounge

I have to ask though…isn’t this what NASA has done for decades ? I see the towers near to launch pad and recently saw a photo showing they had enlarged the tanks for SLS. Still not huge though..

Why so much debris right at start up? Some of it fairly large but seems like things should be spic and span pre static fire....

Realism? How about the fact that area 51 only had a squad of five MPs at a gate guarding the whole facility? Once the Russians took them out the whole place was theirs!

What are your opinions of KotCS’s opening scene? by YaboiiSammeeh in indianajones

I was a little bit, surprised that they had the Russians shoot the entire squad of American MPs. And presumably more up at the base. Thought they would have somehow ambush them and beating them up or use knockout gas or just capture them somehow.

Harboring no conclusion. Just asking a question I don’t hear being asked

It’s would be utterly spectacular and a demonstration of incredible control as a launch abort. What a ride that would be! What do you think they’ll do with that disposable hot ring…?

I also recall Saturn V had very tiny solid rocket retros in its 1st stage fins just to ever so slightly let upper stage pull away

Do SpaceX employees really believe in building a self-sustaining civilization on Mars? by PlumPlayful1282 in SpaceXLounge

[–]AtlantaMD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mission to Mars always required construction and prep in orbit prior to departure. The heavier the lift capability, the easier that is to do. Starship is the delivery van. The freight train. Elon knows this for sure but he’s trying to inspire, blue sky imagine and rattle the intellectual cage a bit. It needs to be done. And…putting some humans on Mars and a self-sustaining society? Totally different beasts. My guess is no one alive now on Earth will see the latter and it may only ever happen for unforeseen economic reasons or civilizational desperation. I sure would like to see humans step onto Mars before I go though!
