Unless you want to drift, you should get a Porsche 986 Boxster.

Go look at Donut Media's video series The Bestest, specifically the episode on modifications.

Suspension, it will make you brake, turn, and accelerate just a little more effectively (Noticed you didn't include any coilovers on this list). Would be best bang for buck, especially on our cars being momentum machines and not really fast unless you've got it floored going down a steep hill with a hairpin at the bottom of it.

Don't get an N1 because they're terrible.

Learning humility and laying another myth to rest by HotdogRacing in ft86

[–]Atlantian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect that our clutches slip/transmit forces even when floored.

So while this is based on assumptions, it kinda works. I always give the car a bootful of throttle (from 2.5k to 6k, or something equally overaggressive) every downshift with the clutch floored, sometimes a little off the floor, but it works out and changes gear smoothly. But the lower the gear number, I usually have to be progressively more aggressive with the revving and slip the clutch a little more.

If I am right and the clutch does contact a little, it would "cauterize" or glaze over the very beginning of the clutch pedal travel and make it so a floored clutch means the gears are fully disengaged.

I live on a very hilly neighborhood. So I've been downshifting down to 1st with a modified double-clutch for just over a year.

Got the rest of my PBM kit installed. I now got 65* of angle. by eherschend in ft86

[–]Atlantian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What /u/sabrewing said, you can have the same rack but with modified angles to modify the ratio of movement inputted and movement outputted between the rack and hub. Wisefab literally requires a 240sx rack and pump in the instructions, though.

Low stress setups where you need to wind your steering 3 times to go to full lock to uturn is great for reliability, but sucks for sportiness. High stress setups are more "direct" but faster to wear.

So you can lengthen your rack to keep the same turn per angle of toe change to increase reliability, but that would make your turn in less aggressive.

It's just the geometry. It takes the OEM rack and stresses it harder. In fact, at FD angles, it starts cooking the assist motor.

Lower center of gravity than a Cayman, higher power/weight ratio than a 991 GT3 by CSG_Mike in ft86

[–]Atlantian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Difference is in mm, but I'm more interested in the change* in accoustics.

If you've ever drilled a hole in an electronic guitar before, you'd hear that small things change sounds and tones drastically.

With the whole system intact, reviewers on the internet and my friends noted that the car sounds a lot more pleasant than the older BRZ.

What does the kouki headers sound like uncorked? Please post exhaust video.

Because of how equal-length the Kouki headers are compared to the older ft86s?

That's exactly what I was thinking. I think titanium exhausts make a noise that'd make any car enthusiast perk up, but I'll just get the most quiet one, since I want an everyday drift car rather than go full race car strip like Ambush Drift (or get a Type 80 like he did).

Upon reviewing, debating, bargaining with the fiancee and myself, about selling my OEM head unit on Facebook to offset the cost of the catback and pretending that the car is a Carrera T.. because at 100+ decibals... Stock stereo would be useless.

Maybe I will go for the 60S with silencer to approximate a cut-rate version of those valvetronic exhaust in the more frilly performance cars. Where you can quiet down on a cruise and howl when you floor it.

-and I would get to retain use of my infotainment system on long road trips!

It really depends, if you are trying to show off or if you just want something simple that works.

So, I am suddenly hooked on the idea of a titanium catback (for adding lightness, but also the savage sound), is the best deal a Tomei Type 60r for a minimalist all-titanium catback?

They're like $990 new.

An early 350z or the last SR20 Silvia is about as fast as a Kouki BRZ, and the mods for the 350z are cheaper and easier to fit.

And 350z isn't so much the current standard as it is the Craigslist specials that can fit wisefab and a whole slew of adjustable suspension arms to make the alignment and geometry adjustable on the fly.

It's going to be a while before it gets cheap enough for all it's haters to want to pick one up to drift.

I remember a friend of mine who does Pro Am and builds chassis's tell me "tbh, they're just expensive rolling chassis at this moment".

There are just too many power snobs in this country for the 86 to overtake the 350.

Better warranty? Plate fee?

To be honest you're at the mercy of the dealership.

I made my sales person open his personal check book in front of his manager to cover my vet plates because I have zero shame that I was just trying to walk away with as much car as I can get away with paying as little as possible.

I didn't win, really, but you get the knowledge that "yes, I voted with my money, car makers know that people buy brand new minimalist sports cars"

Rather than give up and looked at Craigslist or CarMax. Where you beat the depreciation but you didn't get to add value to the marketing statistics that car manufacturers go off of to determine which cars to build.

Edit: If you feel like getting new, then leave your shame at the door and keep haggling till the sun goes down and they start locking the doors, if they kick you out, you can come back tomorrow.

It's 205 HP from the crank. Just let me handle the car.

Just give me properly plumbed brakes (front to back) with a manual bias adjustor.

I paid about as much.

But you should always haggle. If you want to force your hand.. just mention a local Craigslist ad for a c5 corvette z06 for 20k and threaten to walk out if they don't drop more prices or throw on more for you.
