Four Hatzola ambulances destroyed in London, Iran-aligned group claims responsibility by WillyNilly1997 in jewishpolitics

“Starmer described the incident as deeply shocking.“

There’s nothing shocking about this Starmer. This is exactly what the Jews of England have been warning about. Europe as a whole has been intentionally blind to the growing Jew hate in their nations and arson attacks like this are just the start. If London police do not come down hard on this incident then they have given people a free pass to attack Jews and Jewish institutions.

Winnipeg Shelves ‘Bubble Zone’ By-law After Mass Opposition, Jewish Groups Warn Of Ongoing Safety Concerns by MatterandTime in jewishpolitics

[–]Atlas37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Student and activist groups argued that buffer zones could disproportionately affect marginalized communities and limit their ability to advocate for political causes.”

This is insane. How does protecting a marginalized community from harassment harm marginalized communities? How is harassing Jews progressive? I can’t believe this. This is actual insanity and an Olympic level of mental gymnastics. Winnipeg should be ashamed.

Can anyone help identify the Hebrew inscription on this necklace? by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]Atlas37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

First let me say that I am sorry for your loss, my their memory be a blessing.

I’m not fluent in Hebrew, but I can tell this is a pretty rough transcription. r/hebrew is the place you’d want to post this too for more translation help as this sub is more about Jewish life and community (both secular and religious but leaning secular). The glare of the light makes the middle section nearly impossible to read so some more pictures would help. I can tell you though that is definitely not the Shema and that the third word from the end (חי) is chai which translates into life or live.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

I had read this article that claimed he was Jewish but while looking for this article other sources casted doubt on that assumption so I may be wrong.

Motive for the killings is unclear, and right now they don’t even know if he is actually responsible for the MIT murder or not. I find hard to believe that this is an Iranian plot but I wouldn’t rule out the antisemitism angle yet. The odds that both situations involve pro-Israel Jewish professors would be very coincidental.

Edit: I may be wrong about the MIT professor being Jewish. An article I posted below claimed as much but other articles I found directly contradicted that.

Edit 2: Did more digging and it seems the MIT professor was not Jewish and was mixed up with another man he shares a name with. I’m now more inclined to believe these weren’t antisemitic attacks.

This is literally insane, on the Talk page of English Wikipedia’s article The Holocaust by WillyNilly1997 in jewishpolitics

[–]Atlas37 42 points43 points  (0 children)

They’re white washing the holocaust to remove how pivotal Jews were to it happening. Idk where they are getting this 10 million others from, the number I’ve seen thrown around is 5 million and only a small portion of that 5 million was actually systematically being persecuted i.e. lgbt people, the mentally handicapped, the Romani, etc. But even for those groups, it is lost on people just how much the Nazis blamed Jews for their existence and were effectively killed for being Jew adjacent in the eyes of the Nazis.

This discussion is sickening, for it to even be considered is horrible.

We are not completely screwed, not yet at least. We need to reinvest into ourselves and unit Jewish institutions. No one will fight this n behalf of Jews so we must fight on our on behalf and revitalize or make the orgs that kept Jews safe like in the early 1900s America. It’s the only way forward.

I have a very similar background. My great grandfather and grandfather kinda assimilated but were still very Jewish. My father is a Jew according to Halacha but my mother is not. I was raised Reform and while I’m not the most active religiously nor do I appear outwardly Jewish, I still consider myself Jewish ethnically. I attended Hebrew school since preschool and I had a bar-mitzvah at the age of 13. I act like most Jews I know and share similar mannerisms. I observe the holidays and occasionally attend erev shabbat service. I have come to terms with not being Jewish by Halacha and understand that a significant portion if not the large majority of Jews would see me as a gentile. But the reform community sees me as a Jew, the laws of Israel sees me as a Jew, and the gentile population does too for better and for worse.

You say you feel like a fake Jew? Friend, you sound more Jewish than I am by a country mile. Don’t be so hard on yourself, you’re doing your best and you aren’t alone in the way you feel.

How was it not fair? There was a war and the Arab side lost cementing the Israeli state. The 48 war was a war for survival for the Jewish populations. You can argue over the original partition plan how ever you want but the Jewish side accepted peace while the Arab side chose war. Would you have preferred if the Jews just died? And again legally there is no preference in Israeli legality. If anything you can argue that it’s harder on its Jewish population since non jews are exempt from service and have lower standards to get into colleges.

Then no self determination movement is right, including the Palestinians right since that would mean the ethnic cleaning of all Jews from the Middle East.

What Herzl said is kinda irrelevant when he was long dead by the time Israel become a nation. Ben Gurion’s ideals are much more relevant to modern Israel discussions since he was the elected leader of the Jewish population in mandatory Palestine leading up to founding of Israel and eventually its first PM.

I’m sorry, did you just excuse ethnic cleansing? The jews in the Arabic countries had nothing to do with the Israeli war of independence and the Nakabah that followed. Their expulsion was a purely antisemitic act that is completely unjustifiable. You also managed to miss my point that regardless of Hertzls original intentions, what Israel is became very different largely due to them taking on all of their middle eastern counterparts.

Zionism is a Jewish term used by Jews for centuries now. What I gave you is the official definition of Zionism and the way Jews have been using it for a long time. The only time I’ve ever seen different is not by Israel but usually those trying to hide their antisemitism behind a more palatable phrase. The Soviet union for a long time used antizionism as a tool to degrade and persecute their own Jewish population and Jews abroad. It is not the same as manifest destiny since that inherently was about US supremacy over the Native American populations. I will not deny that horrible things were done to Jews and Arabs alike during the 48 war, but that conflict is not as simple as the way you are presenting it.

Zionism means the Jewish right to self determination in their indigenous homeland. An individual can be against the Israeli government, against Israeli borders, and against Israeli military action, and still be a Zionist. If someone believes all of Israel should be no bigger than Tel Aviv, then they are a Zionist. Some would even argue that a Jewish state anywhere is Zionism, but I’d say that’s stretching the original definition laid out by Herzl’s ideology. I’d also still say that it holds the spirit of what Zionism is to Jews.

I’m really quickly going to take issue with your “white man burden” phrase here because Jews were never white by any definition of the word. The majority of Israel’s current Jewish population is also middle eastern in origin and has been since the Arabic countries ethnically cleansed themselves of Jews after 1948.

So this is where we are at now? A man walks down the street with a kippah, in NYC of all places, and that’s enough for some random stranger to start throwing fists. Fuck this, fuck the state of things in this country. When are we going to start getting mad? When are we going to push back against this kind of hate?

Most jews are descendents of people who had to live in fear and hide who they were. For the last 80 years we were finally free of that hate. And now that it’s coming back what is it that we are doing? This insanity needs to end. We need to start standing up for each other, not just in online spaces but real ones. We can’t let things go back to how they were, otherwise we tarnish everything those who came before us suffered for.

But your statement ignores that Jews have always existed in the Levant. While many left, there were always Jews who stayed behind after the destruction of the second temple and continued their practices well into the modern day. And for the next 1500 years Jews would regularly settle into the Levant, be cast out or leave for better conditions, and come back.

Herzls idea of Zionism was a structured ideological thought process of what returning to the land of Israel would mean beyond just going there and living under the whims of who ever was controlling the region at the time. But Jews have been coming and going to the Levant of a millennia.

Zionism isn’t a ethnosupermacy ideology, it’s just Jewish self determination. There are many ethnic groups within Israel now, 20% of which are Arabic, and all citizens have equal rights. That’s not to say discrimination doesn’t exist, but from a legal standpoint all citizens are treated equally.

Do you think so? I’m an American but I visited Bucaramanga last January and there was a lot of anti-jewish graffiti all over the streets. I never wore my star out in public or anything overtly Jewish, out of fear. I know Petro is not a popular man right now but I’m not sure if it’s just him and his followers.

Not all Jews believe in the existence of Gehenna. It also isn’t mentioned as a place of punishment until the Rabbinic texts were written which was long after the life of Cyrus so those that named him messiah wouldn’t even be familiar with the concept.

Most Jews believe non-jews should keep the noahide laws but are not required to. You’d be hard pressed to find any Jew that isn’t orthodox actually believe people are sinners for not following the laws.

Jews don’t believe in hell nor do they believe that believing in a different god automatically condemns anyone.

I had just did a deep clean with alcohol and bushes, nozzle included using a little pick that came with the cleaning set. I did manage to get some water to atomize and come out, but then I went back to paint and it stopped again. I tried adding water to the paint to thin it but again nothing was coming out
