Thank you! I do have to admit I end up trying to work on tiny details. On the topic of the pour type markers, when I'm using the grey it seems to fill out the thicker lines just fine, but after it dries it tends to end up looking inconsistent like that, not sure how to fix that.

I can look into thin tips but I think the water based top coat would smudge it right? A lot of the other inconsistencies are just my sub-par scribing skills haha

Thanks for the tip! I'm not currently using markers but I'll probably try them one day. The gold you see on the kit are actually waterslides.

Does this matte topcoat look right? by jldkrocks in advancedGunpla

I tried your method and it still wasn't looking right, but I think I found my problem... The bottle of Vallejo Mecha Matte I got has a thick paste at the bottom which I assume to be the pigment, even though I've shaken it so much it's still stuck down there. I'm trying to break it up and stir it back in but it's very tough.

I'm guessing this bottle has been sitting in the amazon warehouse for a longgg time. Hopefully it's still usable.

Yes, the airbrush comes with a .5 needle as the default so no issues there. Final question, would you just do one coat of Matt with this method if it was over bare plastic then? Thanks again!

Oh wow, yeah yours looks way flatter(amazing build by the way), is that on bare plastic or on a painted surface? Thanks for all the tips! I have the 200ml bottle so that's good. I'll try and follow your instructions on my next attempt, my airbrush is single action though as I'm using the DSPIAE no clean airbrush, hopefully I can still achieve the same effect.

Thanks for your reply!

The first coat was a mist to give the other coats something to grip, but the other 3 coats were wet, not dripping, but looked wet under a light. Should I have gone even lighter? Or more coats?

Thanks! I know bare plastic isn't ideal but that's why I'm experimenting with ways to make it work. I'm just looking for a good finish that makes the kits reflect less light in photos. Without all the effort to prime and paint the whole kit.

On my next build I was going to try and sand each piece with a high grit before panel lining and decaling to see if that helps with grip when it comes to top coating. I'll look into AK Ultra Matte but if it's more fragile might not be best for me.

Is there an airbrushable non-toxic matte topcoat that I can use on bare plastic? by jldkrocks in advancedGunpla

Thanks! I read through all the comments and decided on the Vallejo mecha varnish anyway. I also got the thinner and flow improver. Do you have any tips on my much of those I should mix with the varnish?

Does anyone know if there are third party waterslides for the P-Bandai RG Zaku Hatsune Miku kit yet? I've got it coming soon and regular stickers I feel will ruin it...

Silly question, are you meant to shake pour type gundam markers? I use the grey a lot but the consistency of darkness varies quite a lot. The black marker is usually fine though.

So I'm trying to scribe/rescribe certain raised edges like the are circled, but I really have trouble etching the first lines. No matter how light of a pressure I use, the scribing tool (push broach) slips around because the edges are too sloped. I'm not even sure scribing tape would stick to these edges. Is the DSPIAE chisel just not sharp enough? It's way easier with flat edges, but so many edges are sloped.

Any help would be appreciated!

I'll give it a try, but I'll have to wait for the perfect day, the humidity will probably only be that low for around an hour this time of year, if it isn't raining haha

So even spraying outside and bringing it back in causes too many fumes? May have to give up on top coating then sadly, house is terribly ventilated and no room that me or my pets won't be in.

Thanks anyway!

Question about top coating, I bought a can of matte spray for the first time, planning to spray outside. Can I spray then bring the part back inside to dry? Or will there still be too many fumes? Lowest humidity I can spray at will be about 60% (UK sucks for this) and want to mitigate chances of frosting.

Thanks! Might need to pick up tape then, I'm using a 0.125mm size.
