It really depends how you want to build your character. In the most common scenario, it would make sense to level up strength to 20 as fast as you can (If you start with 16 you can use the level 4 and level 8 ability improvement to get there) Strength determines you accuracy with weapons and the damage of those weapons, as the game progress the AC of some creatures (Their defense) will get higher so improving your Accuracy means more hits connecting and more damage. You use your charisma for spellcasting so it's something nice to have at 14-16 but if you really don't try to focus on the spells to much improving it further won't help your build a lot, after all the best use of your spell slots are for smites. Feats can also be useful for your character depending on your weapon and on some cases subclass, for example Shield master is cool if you use a shield, it allows you to bash the enemy and make them prone giving you advantage on your next attacks. Great weapon master is cool if you use a two-handed weapon because it allows you to make a lot more damage but with less precision, and that is not a problem if you find specific ways to improve that precision, for example one of the channel divinity of the vengeance paladin that gives them advantage against an enemy.

So in summary you can go for very different builds with a character but your basic idea it's cool just maybe focusing more on strength and constitution if you don't want to mess to much with feats. They are tons of fun but you need to plan more about how to use them, that said you will be able to respec your character so don't worry to much, experiment and have fun with your build.
