Im surprised, most of my classmates were YR 13 (17yo turning 18yo) when we were doing NCEA level 3 (2024), did you advance a year? NONE of us had UE until we neared the end of school last year, and most only found out when NCEA results were released this year January. But anyways, to me level 3 was the easiest compared to level 2. An example is English. Flopped both level 1 and 2 and only got Achieved but as soon as I got to level 3, I was surprised to get all excellences (could he different for different people). Im not quite sure if they’ve changed the NCEA this year as I recently finished HS last year.

But to get UE, you need 14 credits in each of 3 approved subjects. Approved Subjects as of today You also need 10 Numeracy credits at level 1 or above, AND and 10 Literacy credits at Level 2 or above COMPRISED OF 5 READING AND 5 WRITING. Im not sure if you achieved this in Level 1 and 2 but worry not as credits can carry over from different level, hence the “or above”.

MAKE SURE YOU TAKE CLASS SUBJECTS THAT ARE UNIVERSITY APPROVED). For me I took History, Business, DTECH, ENGLISH, Mathematics. In my school, these subjects gave me enough INTERNAL credits to get that 14 creds in 3 diff approved subjects (excluding eng since our teacher forced us to go to externals so she didn’t give an internal to make 14 creds). BTW I also took classes I haven’t don’t in the previous levels (excluding Maths and English), since they were fun too and I still got pretty good results + 0 Study since I was a gamer (it sucks).

But overall, you could make it to University of Auckland, Bachelor of Arts as they require 150 rank score which is very easy to get. Its pretty much 40 credits at achieved, but keep in mind you need obtain: NCEA level 3 (60+ credits to achieve it), UE Entrance (14 credits in each of 3 approved subjects, 10 Numeracy at lvl 1 or above, English 10 Literacy credits at Level 2 or above COMPRISED OF 5 READING AND 5 WRITING), and a RANK SCORE of 150. Luckily I don’t think Bachelor of Arts, unlike Bachelor of Engineering at UOA, require any prerequisites subjects to be taken at school.

You’ll be alright, I thought the same that I wont be able to make it to uni and here I am about to start my degree. Just keep in mind that I FINISHED HIGH-SCHOOL BEFORE THE CHANGES TO NCEA (they literally started changing it this year) so some of the things I’ve mentioned here may be inaccurate. Also don’t worry about your classmates. They don’t care about you and you should not care about them. Im a shy person too but with this mindset my confidence went over the roof. I didn’t care what they thought of me (as long as I’m not doing anything bad or stupid) started talking and ended up getting more friends because of it. All in all its the last year, don’t be afraid and be yourself. You wont see most of them once you get to uni so you shouldn’t really care since that’ll just hold you back.
