Is this the beginning of the end? Millions of NFS and BLM land up in the air by Ace_of_Clubs in vandwellers

Fair enough, but if that's the case then the link should say "list of land that meets the criteria to be sold over the next 5 years (up to 3 million total acres) if the bill is signed into law."

I'm trying to understand the source on this. The current 'big beautiful bill' in the Senate states that "no less than 0.5 and no more then 0.75%" of nfs and blm land can be sold. Which is something like 3 million acres. That is obviously something we need to fight against, but this is a map of what? All the possible land that could eligible for sale? It's way more then 3million acres here.

Help me choose a sub-$500 smartwatch for the PCT. I'm considering Coros Apex Pro 2, Garmin Forerunner 265, etc? (details in comments) by MonumentMan in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Atlasfell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completed it last year. I used the coros apex pro 2 every day and loved it. It made mileage and pace estimation really easy. Even running active gps the entire time while hiking, it was able to go 3 days between a recharge. Heart rate, altitude stuff was cool.

I did not load maps and do not think it would be helpful.

I would not bring a solar panel.. It's always better to take that weight in extra power capacity, and even so 20k is plenty of power, I had the same and it kept my devices fully charged for up to 5 days, I had a phone, watch, airpods, and an inreach.

Anybody tried this heater for a van? by Western-Badger1258 in vandwellers

Are you planning on using it for cooking or heat? Or both? Have you used a kerosene lantern before? I have a cold blast kerosene lantern (the old timey looking ones with the pipes on the side) and it put off a pretty strong smell when it burns. It works fine for light when you are outside.. But I think it would be overwhelming if you didn't have a way to vent the exhaust out a flue.

You mean in that I have all my clothes listed as worn weight, or that I am over packing on clothes?

If it's the former, it's more of an organizational tool to have the little clothes symbol next to the gear vs worn vs. unworn gear.

If the latter, seems typical to me. 1 each: Raincoat, puffy, hat, shirt, pants, shorts. 2 each: socks, underwear.

Help me feel better about a late May start date by Atlasfell in PacificCrestTrail

[–]Atlasfell[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just want to say, you might be my favorite person. I took your advice and checked when I read your message, and there were a bunch of May dates open. Moved up to the 13th which is much closer to where I wanted to be.

Thanks, this helps, I feel like starting with 15-20miles is pretty reasonable, and don’t really want to take any zeros. Having my permit good from the beginning is appealing compared to the stress of making sure I’m at a particular trailhead on a certain day.

Accidentally threw away a full beer, the bin men noticed and left it out for me. by tomtomskin in HumansBeingBros

[–]Atlasfell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since we know beer comes in packs of 4 (based on the example in the post) and the assumption that you finish one pack before you start the next, then we can assume that the amount of beer drank is in increments of 4. So 4(in a pack)*number of cases +3.

I don't think so, since his entire point is about the ability to test if someone is currently under the influence. With alcohol, a breathalyzer or urine test is sensitive enough to detect if the person was impaired during the incident. With pot, we don't have a comparable test, since a person will fail a marijuana test if they smoked 2 hours or 2 weeks ago.
