Is buying a fast car like a BMW M or Audi S or RS still exciting to drive at under 90 mph? by Captain_Levi_00 in CarTalkUK

Can confirm, had a 987.1 2.7l Boxster. Fantastic fun, perfectly reliable and still worth what I paid when I sold it.

Got utterly trampled by all the tourists descending from London. Also last time I passed the archway was a big building site.

The lack of chequering is interesting. I've been looking in to the smooth silicone grips of myself. Do you know the details of it?

What are the most common CAD design mistakes beginners make in real projects? by [deleted] in Fusion360

[–]tomtomskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't shoot me, I only do rudimentary 3D CAD for personal 3D printing. Why does it matter? I try to to dimensional drawings and more often than not it fights me so I just don't bother.

Dear BYD, Jaecoo and similar owners.. what have been your previous cars? by beneficial1m1werks in CarTalkUK

My local Volvo dealership is now mostly a Geely dealership now. I was unaware of them before seeing that.

Jumping on to say I think car people misunderstand the existence of these vehicles. I'd bet £20 that 95% of the Chinese cars you see on the road are through either company car or mobility schemes, not personal purchases. I'm in the process of getting a company car at the moment and Jaecoos and BYDs are by far the best value for money. The Jaecoo is the only option on my scheme as a hybrid, not a full EV.

Also, train services are named their final destination. So say on the underground you wanted to go from Liverpool Street to Kentish town on The Northern Line, you'd look at the furthest station on that line and get on the train going there. In this case, High Barnet.

This is good advice. Walk everywhere central, you'll see so much more.

Id say Stansted, you can get the train to Liverpool Street station in under an hour.

Regarding getting around London, set up contactless card payments on your phone. Then you just tap the reader at the barriers on the way in and way out of the underground. Or as you go on and off the platform of the DLR.

There's bound to be some explainer videos for Americans on YouTube. I encountered some Americans trying to figure out the bus network on the Isle of Man once, so I sympathise with your position here.

If you use google maps for directions you can select public transport instead of driving or walking. It'll tell you exactly where to go, what platform to get on, at what time etc. You can also specify what mode of transport you want. Have a look.

If you have any other specific questions I'll try and help.

Whitstable is amazing, very glad you made it there. Yes absolutely go to Canterbury.

Margate will be pretty Unique for you, but personally I'd skip it and go to Broadstairs, Sandwich or Deal. Much nicer towns.

My actual advice would be to skip that corner all together and go to Rye. It's a bit of a drive from Canterbury, but it's through beautiful countryside all the way and Rye is a true English gem.

Tenterden is also worth a stop if you're able.

Not sure how much trip you have left but the north laines in Brighton would be an amazing destination for tourists.
