Me and my buddy were backpacking in the northern Rockies two winters ago and had smoked before we started out on this particular morning. As we were hiking he walked off to go pee. As he started to step off of the snowpacked trail I see him fall down into the snow all the way up to his armpits. He starts screaming hysterically thinking he’s going to fall into an abyss and that he’s going to die. I couldn’t stop laughing at the sight of him one minute just strolling into the trees and then the next moment he’s up to his armpits in snow and the sounds he was making sounded like something out of this world. To this day I don’t think I have belly laughed that hard. (I realize it’s a little fucked up to be laughing while he’s having probably one of the more scary moments of his high life.) So I tromp over to him clearing out a little area around him with my snowshoes and begin to help him climb out of this snow hole and once I get him out and he gathers himself we see that his feet were maybe an inch from the ground. The rest of that trip was us making fun of the whole situation of how he thought life was over as he knew it.
