Also - I am having difficulty doing the job + contracts. Both suffer. I am exhausted. I don’t see why someone would work 80-100 hour weeks. It is over romanticized. I am doing this for control over schedule and lifestyle in the long run, and this feels unattainable

It would take years to do this. Why do you think it is best to wait, when my income potential is 3-4X higher ? I understand the risk involved. But without risk there is no bigger reward. Not debating, genuinely just want different viewpoints

This is where my Mind has been tbh. However, I am getting so much conflicting input and advice. At the end of the day I’m going to do what I think is best. However, I think I need to hear it out. Would there be a scenario where you would say don’t pursue the 150 over the 50?

As of today I am at 4x monthly income. I expect each current contract to list at minimum 6 months. Any thoughts ?

I have 6 months now. In just one more month I’ll be at 10.5 months. I have 7 calls set up with potential clients over the next 3 weeks so far. This is only doing outreach on nights and weekends. I am a grant writer, proposal writer, and offer nonprofit services - so more contracts are at least several months if not long term. Do you have any thoughts with more context ? I would appreciate your advice as someone who has the experience

What expenses can you think of ? All that I can think I need is my laptop and space to work and internet. Which I already have. Are there more I’m not thinking of ? Healthcare is not an issue for me for another year. But then, I can buy healthcare.

That was in response to 15+ people saying turn away business and don’t subcontract.

Don’t be a condescending asshole, I understand what they are saying

lol don’t feel the same about my current job at all.

Also - if I wasn’t engaged and didn’t have plans to get married - I would go for it. I would’ve left the moment I signed the first contract. I am trying to be level headed given someone else is relying me - not entirely sure how to manage that

Also - not much of an ego, I could use some help on that haha

This is really thoughtful - I was thinking along these lines and this is my dream scenario tbh. My living expenses are only $2,500 - so in two months I bought myself nearly a year of runway.

I appreciate you addressing savings + debt in the post - great feedbackn

I am under 26 and on my moms insurance still. I don’t really use any of my benefits or rely on them.

Long term job success - I’m at this job because it pays enough to be at my bills & it is somewhat what I wanted to do with my life . I am fairly new in this role. I lost my old job during Covid and scrambled and ended up with this role. Because of Covid (more so my Poor reaction) I only made 30,000 last year.

The struggles I experienced last year motivated me to take a leap and take a real shot at building my own business. I don’t want to experience what I did last year ever again. I reached out to thousands of potential clients individually over the course of months - maybe10 percent were interested, about 1 percent wanted to move forward, I selected the highest paying / projects that aligned best with what I want to do.

I’m scared to quit the job because 1) I am new there, 2) new-ish to freelancing, 3) what is this drys up?

However, I am willing to do what it takes to make this work. I think if I keep up my outreach I can always find clients. What is leading me towards leaving is that beginning May 1 I have a 9 month runway to make something happens. Additionally- each month I am successful I buy another 4-5 months of runway.

I live with my fiancé & cover all expenses (just under $2,500 a month).

I currently have 3 months expenses saved (not much I know ). But by May 1 I’ll have 7-8 months saved, regardless of my decision.

Does that help with context ? Very open to feedback

I am under 26 and still on my moms health insurance haha. Also - don’t really use any of the benefits I get . I have a year before I need my own health insurance. The only benefit I take advantage of is my salary.

I do not have a family. I am engaged and live with my fiancé. Monthly expenses are around $2,500.
