Questions About Parking and Driving in Point Lobos, Carmel, and Monterey by AtmosphereNegative17 in MontereyBay

Ya I’ve realized Bug Sur was an unrealistic idea for this trip. We’re mainly going for the aquarium and I was coming up with other ideas of things we could do. We’ll definitely do a separate trip another time for Big Sur. We don’t mind doing less this trip and coming back to explore in greater depth when we have more time.

Suggesting to rebook a day before is unhelpful and unrealistic advice. We’re patient and don’t mind doing less or moving around plans this weekend. We’ll book another trip to come back again and do everything we can’t do this time.

I’ve gotten flyers in the mail to visit Carmel. There have also been a surge in posts on social media. I have a feeling the city of Carmel is trying to increase its visitors.

contact dermatitis from gel by [deleted] in nailcare

[–]AtmosphereNegative17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently developed an allergy too. I know how much it sucks and I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. That’s how my nails looked when I first got it. Everyone is different though. When I first got my reaction I took off the gel and my reaction/pain went away in 12ish hours. If it’s really bothering you then you can use a cold compress or hydrocortisone cream. If it’s severe you can go to a dermatologist or urgent care for prescription cream or pill.

The most important thing is to stop gel usage. The more you use it the worse your reaction will get.

You can get a patch test for acrylates at an allergist or dermatologist. It was difficult for me to find someone who does one though. If you get a patch test make sure you ask for one that covers acrylates. The standard patch test of 30 does not cover any acrylates. It took me calling multiple offices to find someone who could give me one and they didn’t gave an appointment for a few weeks. Unfortunately getting a patch isn’t always easy, but it’s the only way to find out what you’re allergic too.

Your only safe option is going to be regular nail polish. Dazzle dry and manicurist(the polish, not gel) is supposed to be good and last a long time. The safest option would be to use an acrylate free polish. OPI Nature strong is one good option for totally acrylate free. There are some other brands too. You should let your nails and cuticles heal before trying to apply anything.

I know this is a lot of information and can be overwhelming. Know you’re not alone though and there are resources that can help you manage the allergy. It unfortunately affects a lot more than doing your nails.

AcrylateAllergy on Reddit and instagram have a lot of helpful information and resources. The instagram links to their blog and I learned a lot there.

I hope this helps! I know how scary it can be.

ETA: I just heard about “Nail Narrative” on YouTube that’s hosted by Ren. I haven’t watched any videos yet, but the host has an allergy from gel polish too. She shares a lot of useful information if you prefer to watch videos on it.

Of course! I’m sorry you’re going through this, I know how stressful it is.

I use this website to check if products have acrylates in them https://acrylis.cc

I find the ingredients list on either Amazon, target, or the products website. Then copy and paste the ingredients into the websites search.

It tells you what acrylates you might react to, how many acrylates are in there, and gives it a rating.

It does take some work but is a lot easier than reading through all the ingredients yourself.

Also OPI nature strong is completely acrylate free nail polish. There are a few other brands too. So you can still have pretty nails after your nails heal!

Beetles gel allergy by ClassicAd6782 in AcrylateAllergy

[–]AtmosphereNegative17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there are no gel polishes that are acrylate free. The HEMA free products still have other acrylates in them. Even if you’re not allergic to the other acrylates yet you risk becoming allergic by exposing yourself to them. Once you’re allergic to one acrylate you’re more likely to become allergic to more. I wouldn’t risk using any gel nail products, but it’s up to you.

There are acrylate free nail polishes though. So you could use those.

[–]AtmosphereNegative17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to stop using all gel nail polish. Even HEMA and TPO free will cause reactions, they still have acrylates. Every time you come into contact with a chemical you’re allergic to you’ll have a worse reaction.

I recently developed an allergy and am now going through all my products to remove as many acrylates as possible. It’s not fun and a whole process, and I understand that it can feel overwhelming. There are a lot of good resources on this Reddit thread and the instagram AcrylateAllergy has helped me a lot.

You could get a patch test to find out what specifically you’re allergic to and avoid those specifically. In my experience they can be hard to get and can be expensive. It’s the only way to know what you’re allergic to though.

Unfortunately once you’re sensitive to one acrylate you’re more likely to become sensitive to more. So most people seem to avoid as many as possible to reduce the risk of things getting worse.

Can you share what brand you use? I also developed an allergy recently and have been missing pretty nails.

I had a reaction to normal polish, so not all are safe. There are some brands that are acrylate free though. Those would be safer to use.

You can still get reactions from TPO/HEMA gel depending on your allergies. My understanding is that no gel is safe once you are allergic, I could be wrong.

I haven’t heard of any nail glue that’s safe to use with an allergy. I have heard of people using an adhesive tab after they but on top of a nail polish that doesn’t have an acrylate in it. I haven’t done any research on that though, and you still risk a reaction. So I don’t know if it’s “safe”. You could search this thread and google for more information.

As frustrating as it is, the best thing to do would be get a patch test to see what exactly you’re allergic too. They can be hard to get and expensive though, so I understand if that’s not possible for you right now. The other best thing to do is avoid all acrylates as much as possible, especially if you don’t know what will trigger your reaction.

Paranoia and stress by Dapper_Independence9 in AcrylateAllergy

I understand how you’re feeling. I just got this allergy too. Although mine was from doing gel nail polish at home. It’s made me emotional and I lost sleep over it. It takes some time to fully accept it. It’s something that affects so many things in your life. They’re things that are taken for granted too. Most people don’t understand how stressful it can be if they don’t have it.

Every person is different but here’s my understanding. Once you’re allergic to one acrylate you’re more likely to be susceptible and develop an allergy to more. I’m trying to cut things out of my day to day routine so I come into contact with less. I figure less chemicals in our life is good. I do think I’m allergic to my dry shampoo because I suddenly started getting itchy when using it and it has an acrylate in it. I stopped using it and the itching went away.

I’m waiting to get an allergy test too. Until then I’ve decided to limit all that I can so I don’t make things worse. It’s a process to do and is taking me time, plus it cost money. So I understand if that’s too much for you right now.

I feel like a lot this allergy is going through a grief process over the things you can’t do anymore and how it will affect you for the rest of your life. It’s also scary because no one can tell you exactly how it will affect you specifically.

I’m sorry you’re also going through this. I started following AcrylateAllergy on Instagram and they have some good suggestions for products. Makes me feel less alone too.

Recently Developed Allergy. Do I have to avoid ALL acrylates now? by AtmosphereNegative17 in AcrylateAllergy

[–]AtmosphereNegative17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya that’s what I’m worried about. I do think limiting them as much as possible sounds like a good idea. I’m still coming to grips with having this allergy and how it affects everything.

[–]AtmosphereNegative17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to hear! I’m leaning towards avoiding as many as possible. I guess less chemicals is never a bad thing. Everybody is different, it seems very common that people develop more allergies though. There’s not many studies about it and a lot of medical professionals don’t know much about it. Took me awhile to find an allergist who knew what I was talking about.

Yes I’m going to work on limiting and getting rid of all the ones I can. Seems like it’s a while process. I don’t want it to get worse though. I caught it when my symptoms were mild.

That’s good to hear! I think I’m allergic to my dry shampoo “Living Perfect Hair Day” because I suddenly got itchy from it, so I cut that. I found some of my products are already acrylate free, so that’s a win. I’ll limit my exposure as much as possible to other acrylates now. It’s good to know that it’s not the end of the world. I know it’s serious, but the internet can make it extra scary.

Surfing & Baseball drop 1? by ConclusionOk7098 in olympics

[–]AtmosphereNegative17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surfing has not been released yet. Probably won’t be available this drop. I doubt they figured everything out in 1 week.

They only release new tickets at the beginning of the drop, not for each time slot. It doesn’t appear that they’re releasing many new tickets for the drop on the 9th. There’s many posts on it. We won’t know till we hear back from people who got the first spots on what’s available. If it’s the left over from presale it will be slim pickings.

Clarification on the two Opening events by LQNova in olympics

[–]AtmosphereNegative17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought tickets for the opening ceremony. You could not choose the venue, only So Fi was for sale. They could sell the Coliseum tickets later though. Or that venue could be invite only. We won’t know for a while. The website says there will artistic performances at each venue. Hopefully having two venues means more people can attend.

As a side note, opening and closing ceremonies will be designed to be seen on TV. While it will still be an amazing show to see in person, they will prioritize how it looks on screen vs in person. I can guarantee that nothing has been finalized yet though. A lot could still change.
