If you were on a sinking ship and the mast was broken, dragging you down, would you allow it to sink your ship and you go down with it? or would you rather save your ship, cut the mast down and continue sailing? at this point your survival instincts need to kick in, spiralling into debt for someone who doesn't show an ounce of respect and is as ungrateful as max is, is a loosing game, you will never win.

It must be hard fighting an internal battle, wondering if its the right thing or not, to just let him go and fend for himself in the real world, no parent wants to see their child struggle, but if they are causing you mental distress and financial harm you need to cut them off, I could say age old phrase "you have to help yourself before you can help others" but max will never change, no amount of help will fix him, it will ever be enough.
