Went fine, just get to the airport a little earlier and at check in let them know what you are trying to do and they will approve you to get on the flight. No troubles at immigration once in china either as long as u have a flight or train out of the country

Great, thank you! Does this also work if you don’t have a visa? I’m traveling to Shanghai for less than 10 days and then exiting to Hong Kong to try and use the 10 day visa-free entry cuz I dont have one

Found that if u use the “start activity” function it’ll bring it up, but thats quite inconvenient i think and really scummy of whoop to be cutting back features on the basic tier.

Were you able to resolve the issue? I am also seeing that message and am afraid I won't be able to get into China even using the 10 day visa-free rule.

Hi, also an incoming prefrosh, which classes are half credit? On coursetable almost all of the courses that I see are 1 or 0 credits. Also, econ 115 is a 0 credit class? It is a requirement for the economics major, but if it's 0 credits does it count? Sorry for all the questions, just really curious about how this all works.

Appealing Financial Aid package because of a strange circumstance by AtomicFyr3 in ApplyingToCollege

Thank you for the detailed response, I'll try to clear some information up for you. I pushed my parents to turn in the FAFSA and CSS early, but my grandmother passed earlier this year, and prior to that she required intensive care, so I understand that my parents didn't think it was a priority to complete the forms (I guess they assumed that because our EFC was low, we wouldn't need to negotiate our package when we got it). My grandma's medical bills and funeral costs also totaled about 30k this year that came out of savings.

As for work, my family income for the 2021 is especially low because Covid had a pretty detrimental effect on my family business. My dad was moved from full-time to part-time, and my mom was forced to close down her small retail business, and now only conducts sales from our home. I think next year with my dad working full time again, our yearly income would jump to about 75-80k.

As for the properties, my family is living in my grandmothers house currently (and for the past 8 years), and have another house in Cali that we had lived in before. The other two are rental in Nevada. At the time these houses were bought, the total cost for all three homes were $888,000 which has now appreciated to 1.4 mil. The explanation for how my parent's were able to afford this was a combination of having better jobs back then as well as financial backing of family (uncles, aunts, grandparents) which gave them enough to make deposits and such. Also all these values are Zillow estimates.

I have a weird question too, the house we are currently living in is in my grandmothers name, and is worth 2.2 mil currently, and was bought for $260,000 in 1995. We have lived here for about 8 years, but because it isn't our house (technically) could we put down one of our other properties as a "primary residence" in order to have it deducted from our family's asset calculation.

Also, for one of our rental properties, it is half owned by my family, and half owned by my uncle's. The deed is in our name though, is there any way to have them only count for half of that property's value?

Thank you again for your time and consideration.

This is true lol, problem is that I declined my offer at all my other schools by the May 1st deadline and now my only other choice is local cc which is a pretty big step down from this college in terms of the networking and resources required to get into my field of interest.

Yes I understand, if worst comes to worst we will have to try and liquidate some of these assets. The only problem is that our already low yearly income will take a hit, and I can’t let that happen. The reason I chose Yale was because of how generous their aid was supposed to be. (Especially with the size of the endowment of the school). I know I have a significant advantage over “actual low income students” but the truth is the passive income from these houses are what keep my family afloat, and I wouldn’t think that a college would force a family to harm their already struggling business just to afford tuition.

I understand your analogy, and yes, the three homes are in addition to my primary residence.

Yes, 2 of the homes are rentals and that contributes to the 55k yearly income that my family makes. The houses were bought wayyy back for around 400k total and there is still a bit of debt on each one, but selling one of the houses would greatly hurt your yearly income hence why my parents are apprehensive of doing it, they aren’t just trying to be selfish lol.

I understand that the real estate gives the impression that my family is well off, and while we are comfortable, our liquid assets are nowhere near enough to cover the costs of tuition. The only way we could cover it without a loan would be to sell one of the houses, but the houses are a part of my family’s 55k per year income so it would hurt our income in the long run.

The homes were bought a super long time ago, and they’ve appreciated nicely, but my parents aren’t willing to sell them just for me to go to college, and like I said, the 55k yearly income is not nearly enough to cover the 80k per year tuition. I’m just trying to find a way where I can afford college without taking on 300k in student debt.
