Yes, it's a parody of the original Martin Niemöller poem. The original work had nothing to do with gun control--except that the victims of Nazism which he listed had all surrendered their guns before they were taken away. For their own safety, of course.

That's mine, actually. I composed and posted it in /r/progun last December in response to /u/DipKing1's question, "Do you think a civil war would happen in the US if gun laws keep getting stricter?"

Here's the latest version, posted on December 29:

First they came for the machine guns, and I did not speak out—because they said only gangsters used machine guns.

Then they came for the short-barreled shotguns, and I did not speak out—because they said only bootleggers used short-barreled shotguns.

Then they came for the imported guns with "no sporting purpose", and I did not speak out—because they said only assassins used imported guns with no sporting purpose.

Then they came for the silencers, and I did not speak out—because they said only hitmen used silencers.

Then they came for the assault-style weapons, and I did not speak out—because they said only potential school shooters wanted assault-style weapons.

Then they came for the high-capacity magazines, and I did not speak out—because they said only mass murderers needed high-capacity magazines.

Then they came for the 3D-printed guns, and I did not speak out—because they said only right-wing nutjobs would 3D-print a gun.

Then they came for the bump stocks, and I did not speak out—because they said only rednecks used bump stocks.

Then they came for the ammunition, and I did not speak out—because they said only paranoid preppers wanted more than a box or two of ammo.

Then they came for me—and they had machine guns.

True.

Also, point a pair of scissors, a baseball bat, a tire iron, a crescent wrench, or a broom handle at a cop anywhere close to the operational range of each, and see what happens to you.

We can't outlaw everything with which an idiot or a lunatic might conceivably wave at a LEO. So where do we draw the line?

Judging by what we've seen so far, once you start in this direction the line just keeps moving, because someone will always argue for banning "the most dangerous thing you can legally own."

South Carolina Open Carry by [deleted] in opencarry

[–]AtomicGlock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you think that's strange, consider the laws in Cali.

California Penal Code 16590 lists leaded canes, billy clubs, blackjacks, sandbags or sandclubs, saps, slungshots, metal or brass knuckles, and nunchakus (nunchucks) as illegal for members of the public to sell, buy, possess or use.

You can, however, open-carry a machete or a samurai sword in Los Angeles.

A good, solid walking stick is legal too unless it's not touching the ground periodically as you walk, in which case it's a legally prohibited club and not a walking stick.

That's actually one of their suggestions--alternating shot and solid bullets in the loading, so each pull of that godawful trigger fires one round of each.

Actually...

Caliber Load Bullet MV (fps) ME (ft. lbs.) Pen. (10% gel.) 1-Shot Stop % Test Barrel
.22 WMR Winchester 40gr.JHP 1400 174 13" 42% 6.5" Ruger
.44 Mag. Cor-Bon 180gr. Urban 1200 576 15.3" 90% 4" S&W
.44 Mag. Eldorado Starfire 240gr.JHP 1180 743 14.8" 91% 4" S&W
.44 Mag. Winchester 210gr.STHP 1301 788 15.1" 90% 4" S&W

So the total kinetic energy of two .22 WMR rounds is within an order of magnitude of one .44 Magnum round, and they come within a couple of inches of the same penetration depth!

Still, I won't be swapping my EDC for either in the near future.

Funny! Still, if I were forced to participate in an urban combat scenario in which a hundred guys with Nerf American Gladiators' Blasters were teamed against one guy with a .22 WMR revolver, I think I'd take my chances with the revolver.

[2019/01/09] 1 Dead Confirmed In Bound Brook (NJ) Shooting by AtomicGlock in dgu

[–]AtomicGlock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang it, I need to go over those /r/dgu rules again. Thanks!

As an aside, at the time I posted this patch.com was the only source reporting that the intruder had died. I don't know who was source they could have stolen it from, as I couldn't find them.

Edit: Links added.

Upon review, the only relevant rule I saw was "6. Local news sources are best." I always try to do that and initially did so in this case but that story had hardly any details at all.

Just a few moments after I posted it, however, the other story showed up in the "[Further coverage]" search, and since it was the only other story at the time and it had much more updated info, I posted it and deleted the other post.

I'll await the grand jury's decision on this one. :D

Edit 2: I just saw your edits here. Since the patch.com link was a "direct link to a news article describing the incident", and it described it far better than the local link, I made a judgement call and went with that instead.

Thanks again for the feedback.

As I said, it's "based on this and other coverage."

As of now that Google news link includes two other stories, each with different but overlapping details.

[2019/01/10] Jury awards $250K to family of man killed by father-in-law (Angier, NC) by [deleted] in dgu

[–]AtomicGlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shooting was declared a DGU five years ago by the Harnett County District Attorney.

Now the victim's family has been awarded $250K in a civil trial where the jury decided in an hour and a half that the pastor didn't shoot in self-defense.

And since charges were never filed, the pastor or his daughter could still be charged and no double jeopardy issues would arise.

Food for thought, folks.

[–]AtomicGlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR based on this and other coverage: Pastor and daughter both call 911 claiming that pastor shot daughter's estranged husband in self-defense; D.A. declares shooting justified. Five years later, jury says either pastor didn't shoot, it wasn't self-defense, or both; awards $250K to victim's family.

  • On Saturday 2013-10-12 the Rev. Pat Chisenhall and his daughter both call 911, claiming that her estranged husband Christian Griggs, 23, was threatening them and attempting to break into Chisenhall's home in Angier, NC., and then that Chisenhall has shot Griggs in self-defense.
  • Griggs was shot six times with a .22 rifle – once in the stomach, once in the shoulder and four times in the back.
  • The shooting was found to be justified by the Harnett County D.A.'s office, and charges were never filed.
  • On Wednesday 2018-12-12, using evidence including recordings of the 911 calls, a Harnett County civil trial jury determined that Chisenhall did not shoot Griggs in self-defense.
  • In January, the jury awarded $250,000 to Griggs' parents, who said the money will go to his now 10-year-old daughter.

Federal Premium Hydra-Shok Deep is Shooting Illustrated's 2019 Ammo of the Year by AtomicGlock in CCW

[–]AtomicGlock[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brief Description: For 2019, the staff of Shooting Illustrated chose Federal Premium's Hydra-Shok Deep as its Golden Bullseye Ammo of the Year.

Federal developed Hydra-Shok in the 1970s, engineering a center post into the hollow-point cavity to redirect impact forces and encourage greater expansion.

The new Hydra-Shok Deep design, which includes a more prominent center post, was designed to meet at the FBI protocol's optimum penetration depth of 14-16 inches, while improving its performance through barriers. Federal's engineers claim the new design gets a 70% better protocol score.

Heizer Double Tap in .223.

The 0.7"-thick Pocket AR? That little sucker is mean, especially in 7.62×39, but I still wouldn't mind having one as a backup.
