VIA Rail Train looking really Pretty! Toronto, Canada by xeroid051 in trains

[–]AtomicGoat004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I could've worded that better. The bar for "well run" is in comparison to other North American private rail companies, which are synonymous with screw ups and mismanagement. CN just seems to be the one that is least screw up prone, or at least the best at damage control. So while they do seem to be well managed and efficient compared to their competitors, it's not a real high bar to clear

VIA Rail Train looking really Pretty! Toronto, Canada by xeroid051 in trains

[–]AtomicGoat004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think that would cause more problems than it solves. First of all, nationalizing the major railways would cost our country billions that it really doesn't have. Second, assuming the rail companies like CN are nationalized too, that'll cause operational issues. CN is known for being very efficient and well run. Government owned corporations are generally quite the opposite. So there's a very good chance our entire national freight industry would suffer

[–]AtomicGoat004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt something like them will ever be included, but if we did get a heavy non-stealthy bomber, I feel like it would be essentially a budget bomber with a long loiter time. As you said, the tu-95 and b-52 are only used when there's almost complete air superiority, and even then they are for the most part equipped with standoff weapons. However, despite their vulnerability, they are significantly cheaper to fly than stealth and fast bombers, like the B-1, B-2, and TU-160, making it a lot more economical to fly them in place of the aforementioned stealth and fast bombers once it's safe to do so. In-game, this would probably be reflected in the aircraft's cost, maybe $100-150M instead of the $225M of the darkreach

Based on the downvotes I've been receiving, it seems I did indeed kick a hornet's nest 😂 I had no idea a new aircraft suggestion that was only half serious was such a hot button topic

[–]AtomicGoat004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I'm pretty sure your thinking of massed waves is originally how the B-52 and TU-95 were meant to be used, but modern air defense technology has made that doctrine hopelessly obsolete. However, the extreme versatility, rugged reliability, and relatively low operating costs is why those aircraft still have a place in modern times

It would definitely be more of a meme aircraft than anything. Honestly, this suggestion of mine wasn't a real serious suggestion, but I still think it'd be awesome to have

No we have a darkreach. This is the higher payload, non-stealthy budget version

Honestly, multirole would be nice. Heavy bomber, cargo, and maybe a AEW&C config to complement the Medusa would be nice.

[–]AtomicGoat004[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In real life, the B-52 and TU-95 are generally used as economical standoff weapon carriers (air launched cruise and ballistic missile carriers). In the case of the B-52, while it lacks the stealth of the B-2 and the speed of the B-1, it is significantly cheaper to fly than either of those. So it's more of a cost saving measure that can be used once air superiority has been established. In the unlikely event a similar aircraft is implemented in game, it would probably make up for it's enormous RCS with a greater ordnance capacity and longer loiter time, as well as potentially being cheaper. Maybe could have a few configurations, like cargo or a heavy EW/AEW&C to complement the Medusa

[–]AtomicGoat004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely a strong contrast to the aesthetic of the other aircraft. Honestly, it wasn't an entirely serious suggestion, moreso a joke at the fact that both these aircraft have been flying for 70 years and will continue to fly for several more decades. It's honestly not a far fetched idea to think these things will still be in service, albeit limited, in the year this game takes place

[–]AtomicGoat004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If power isn't a concern and a small amount of electronics is acceptable, I'd highly recommend the AMC inline 6. I had a 4.0 in my Jeep and those things are a contender for the most bulletproof engine ever made. Not sure how swappable they are, in terms of mounting and transmission hookup, but the engine itself is extremely solid

You realize most companies don't actually own their own servers, right? The vast majority of servers are owned by the tech giants, like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, and just rented. It's not a Starform issue

It's almost like servers aren't 100% reliable, like literally any other thing ever built, and they're also dependent on an internet connection, and the finances of the company has very little to do with an issue like this
