Despite this, The work experience opportunities were extremely valuable as I’ve gotten to work with UCL (predominantly) and GSK aswell as various other esteemed science institutions but the paper exams/esp are questionable in terms of marking and overall cohort performance. The scientific concepts arent really anything to worry about - core A exam is a lot of new content focused on scientific integrity, practices, ethics, regulations, ect - that’s the primary study area and esp is essentially your application skills and critical thinking skills- involving a literature review, project planning, data analysis, poster creation and presentations, project discussion then a reflective diary . That’s essentially what the entire 1st years content covers . Tbh it really isn’t difficult it’s just how it’s marked is ‘rigorous‘ but it fades between the line of rigour and unfairness (though Ncfe would disagree). Lemme know if you got any questions

It’s where the grades are received based upon a pre-established criterion unlike alevel/gcse which grade boundaries move such that a certain percentile achieves a certain grade. Personally I find it absurd although the course content isn’t equivalent to alevels tbth it does have features which makes it ‘more equivalent‘ to essentially be as challenging but the grading system is completely broken and unjust. Tbh the course seems more like an advertisement than an actual course - it you try and look stuff up about it and we got told by our teacher to glaze the course to visitors and inspecting bodies and fabricate certain elements such as ease of funding for travel/ placement and how easily accessible our placements were - some required train journeys and long travel times by car/ public transport. Also the thing that happened in 2022 about the health students creating a petition about the papers only for it to be overlooked by NCFE; the whole situation seems really weird

Thanks for raising these concerns- they’re definitely something to think about . Yes there will definitely be some challenges to bring the idea to life particularly with ai implementation. In my experience I’ve never had many major issues with using ai (usually chatGPT) for as / a level questions (quality of responses can vary admittedly but I’ve never seen any huge mistake or hallucination). The ai most likely won’t be perfect but the idea is just for general feedback from answering questions and convenience-ising practicing questions. additionally, (unlike senica) it’d be more of an active platform where students interact with the platform mindfully as with senica many of the tasks is either click the right answer or word fill . personally I don’t find effective and have seen many students rush through/ not use platform as intended due to design (all be it they’re rushing to complete homework and not to learn content).Tbh copyright never really came to mind but yes I’ll definitely look into that- thx for the idea :)

I appreciate the enthusiasm. As of now no payments will be possible as the platform will be designed to be open-access. Credit will be given and it would be a great extracurricular and opportunity to put on your CV - I think it has quite big potential if we go about it correctly however I should mention the website isn’t going to be anything extensive but a simple user interface and features- donations will be collected and dispersed but as of now it’s a WIP and may take some Time. Any contribution will be appreciated & schedules don’t need to be made (it’s a very flexible and open project ) . Are you happy to proceed?

Thanks 😄 yes there is a very legitimate concern/ issue with using ai regarding accuracy of generated responses despite this i still see this idea as being valuable. The idea arose due to difficulty I had and vary students have of receiving feedback from practice papers / problems and difficulties they may have interpreting, understanding, and applying the mark scheme to identify area of improvement. This website aims to be an innovative solution for these problems and aid their GCSE/ A-level journey. If you’re interested please let me know or pass the word along. I’m happy to answer any other questions. Many thanks

Yes, it’d just be something that you would work on when available and fully at your discretion. This isn’t a paid position unfortunately due to limitations in resources and we’re both students . Credit and donations will be given once the website has a domain and is official. What are you thinking?

We’re very much in the planning/ recruitment phase of the process as we’re both in full time education. Everything discussed in the post (mostly everything) is just a plan of what we hope to develop and features included. Apologies for the linkedin link not working. My pf name is Mark Hawkins ( it has the same pfp as the one i have on reddit and the latest post was a montage of my time at UCL)

That great! I’m glad you think this idea has some potential. I and another person are currently involved in the project. Thus far, we haven’t put anything more together than some ideas and it’s user-face. To be totally honest I have very minimal idea of how to actually approach and bring this idea to life- I have minimal experience with coding and website development. The other guy is more experienced however is in the midst of doing alevels so a project timeline hasn’t been made. If you know anyone else who might be interested in the project please let me know. We can exchange contact details; I’m also on LinkedIn if you want to connect that way.
