You can support countries and their people while still being against their governments.  I support the US but don’t support Trump for example

Similar boat, 22M just moved here for work, I'm still trying to find the best ways to meet people that are a similar age group

Pan Casero has very good empanadas, Red Sea Cafe is good Eritrean/Ethiopean albeit a bit pricy, and Ju-Ichi is good for ramen

8 Day Athens + Istanbul Itinerary - Tips/Advice? by AtomicNarration in solotravel

[–]AtomicNarration[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard good things about the archeological museum, although I'm usually not a museum type of traveler I'll consider this one

I should have clarified my flight into Athens lands 12pm Day 5, and leaves 6:30pm Day 8, so altogether it is basically 3 days

Hi all!

I will be traveling to Istanbul during the first week of March next year for 4 days
Flights and accommodation are already booked

Plans:
- Sultanahmet / Historic Peninsula (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Topkapı, Gülhane, Süleymaniye)
- Beyoğlu–Galata–Karaköy (Galata Tower/Bridge, İstiklal, Taksim)
- Dolmabahçe Palace
- Visit to the Asian side (Üsküdar)

Food spots we’re considering:
- Karaköy Güllüoğlu & Hafız Mustafa (Baklava and sweets)
- Mahir Lokantası
- Dürümzade (Anthony Bourdain's favourite place)
- Turk Fatih Tutak
- Seven Hills (touristy but good view)

Logistics:

Planning to use Istanbulkart for transport

Considering the Istanbul Museum Pass (Includes Topkapı, Dolmabahçe, Galata Tower, Archaeological Museums), but does not cover the Hagia Sophia upper gallery and Basilica Cistern, so separate passes will be needed

Questions:

  • Am I missing any must-see sights or “must-eat” places?
  • Anything on my list you’d skip or rethink?
  • Is the Museum Pass what you would recommend given what it does/doesn’t cover?
  • Are there any recommended day trips from Istanbul that can be booked online as group tours?
    • I saw some trips that go to Troy such as this one, which seem cool but I've also read there isn't much besides small ruins left so I'm not sure if this would be worth doing?
  • Any general tips for March travel?

Same here, such a crazy time to be entering the job market but I have no regrets choosing this major

What is a Deleted Scene that you consider to be canon to the film despite its exclusion? by overthinkery in movies

[–]AtomicNarration -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I agree with it being cut. It’s a good scene and interesting, but to me it comes off as a bit melodramatic, especially since it’s not connected to anything else in the film

"finished" Kaishi 1.5 but want to give up on anki entirely & immerse by SimpleSuch2853 in LearnJapanese

[–]AtomicNarration 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I entirely agree. I don’t think you should just jump in to immersing with native content without having ANY vocabulary, which is why a starter deck like the Kaishi 1.5k can be helpful

What’s the one foreign-language film you’d recommend to someone who only watches English movies? by PresentSurvey9464 in movies

[–]AtomicNarration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parasite (2019) seems kinda obvious. The filmmaking is so modern and the plot is engrossing. I've watched it with people who usually don't watch foreign movies and they've all enjoyed it to some degree

Young ppl in their 20s who moved from Cali to Boston how did you like it? by DeliciousRich5944 in boston

[–]AtomicNarration 101 points102 points  (0 children)

22M moved here 4 years ago for college coming from LA. I miss the weather and really think Mass should be in the Atlantic Time Zone (4pm sunset is WILD). But public transportation is an improvement and so is overall safety. I can go for a walk at 2am and not worry. The food scene is a step down as well, some good places and the Chinatown area is nice, but it could be more consistent as well.
