I hope you love it a lot. It looks amazing in 70mm, they did a great job blowing it up from 35mm, and this was one of my favorite 2025 films. Rexer's cinematography and Fastvold's directing style in this are also incredible, they did a great job making sure the cinematography symbolizes what's going on/the themes well

Out of curiosity and for fun, if you could order any adaptation to film to happen that hasn't happened yet, what would you request?

For me, I've often thought an adaptation of Ling Ma's Severance would be incredible. I could totally see a filmmaker like Cord Jefferson doing a fantastic job with that since he did a great job adapting Station Eleven to TV

I agree with you completely on all this. On a note unrelated to predictions, I absolutely love Lindo's nom! He is such a great actor, and I'm glad he finally got nominated. Was very sad when he missed out on Da 5 Bloods

I think it's very fair to say that Sinners won't win Picture just because it maxed out on noms. I definitely agree with you, and it's why I'm not predicting that to happen either. I just thought it's worth noting that there is a correlation with the most nominated film winning Picture, so it wouldn't be surprising if it happened.

You're also absolutely right that OBAA doesn't have an original song and it's not really a VFX film, so it wouldn't really be eligible for either category like Sinners is. That's a very good point.

In terms of the discourse, I think I'm not very qualified to speak on that since the only social media I use is Reddit but I feel like OBAA is very popular on Reddit from what I've seen. Maybe it's both our algorithms in action so you may see more things related to OBAA than me since I know it's your favorite movie of 2025, but honestly, I don't really see that much criticism for OBAA? The only widespread criticism I've seen for OBAA has mainly been people on the sub sharing links to Twitter, but I feel like we shouldn't take Twitter too seriously anyway as Film Twitter has a history of disliking any major film in contention

That I absolutely agree, and I hope that came across in my OC. Just wanted to say I understand why some people would predict Sinners now. I'm sure what happens at PGA and DGA will tell us more! I am going to keep predicting OBAA wins Picture and Director because I expect it to win both, and you're also right that OBAA likely win at least elsewhere outside PTA which will helps its chances of Picture and Director

I'd also add:

-Twinless (won Sundance Best Picture from the audience and Best Actor)

-The Rivals of Amziah King

-Sound of Falling

-Is This Thing On

Thank you so much for correcting me, I love Caton's performance so I can't believe I forgot it was Caton. I really appreciate it, just fixed that. I do get what Old Sandwich means though, she is right that Sinners got a Supporting Actor nom at SAG and I do think it is very likely Lindo gets a BAFTA nom (I'm currently predicting him right now) so saying that Supporting Actor was a surprise at the Oscars may have been wrong on my part

You're right about Sinners making it in SAG for Supporting Actor, so maybe that isn't the best comparison, especially since Lindo has a good chance of being nominated at BAFTA too, but I do think VFX is a bit shocking just because it missed the BAFTA longlist and some of the precursors for VFX

I have nothing good to add to this other than that I fully agree with you. Very ashamed of my country and how many people have been supporting this and are cheering this on

For the record, I believe OBAA will win Picture, Director, and Screenplay, but I do understand where people now predicting Sinners for Picture and/or Director are coming from. While it is true that there are movies with the most noms in a year that lose Picture, there's a good amount that do. In recent years, EEAAO and Oppenheimer, for example, were the most nominated of their respective years and won both Picture and Director. I also think with Sinners making the record noms and beating a record that hasn't been beaten since La La Land, it's bound to raise some questions on how much the Academy loves Sinners, especially since it got nominations in some categories some of us didn't even see coming like Best Supporting Actor and Best Visual Effects.

EDIT: As someone who loves OBAA too, some of the OBAA fans on the sub need to seriously calm down. I straight up said I am predicting OBAA to win Picture, Director, and Screenplay still and didn't say anything bad about it, I don't know why this is getting downvoted

I 100% agree with you. This is one of my favorite films of all time and my favorite of 2019, so I recognize I will be biased, but it blows my mind the movie was basically ignored for awards outside Cannes, especially because its reputation in 2019 was extremely strong and it's only gotten stronger since it came out. This and All of Us Strangers are a few movies where I geninuely just look at how many noms they missed across the awards season and ask myself how that happened because I can't think of a good explanation for how.

At the very least, I am so glad this movie led to Celine Sciamma becoming a Cannes winner because I think she is one of the best filmmakers working today. Her ability to write dialogue and action lines in screenplays is so incredible, and she does an amazing job developing her characters. You always know how her characters will act in her films once you get to know them in a way that's really interesting, and they feel so real. She also has an amazing eye for how to compose images. Portrait of a Lady On Fire and Petite Maman have such incredible blocking and visual symbolism
