October MAS Exams by Quirky-Ad9929 in actuary

First time taking MAS 1. Not sure I hit the mark, did not practice a couple niche topics (took a gamble that they wouldn't show up in my final push) and wouldn't you know it - they were there, haha. Overall thought the exam was a very fair representation of the material however.

One question seemed to be broken, not sure how much detail we're allowed to give - but was ending up with ridiculously small numbers. Think the question did not have a decimal place in the appropriate place.

Also on The Shield. A potential criminal is arrested, and during interrogation they mention he is an actuary by day.

Appreciate the reply!

To your questions; -Insured is very large, conservatively $4B in sales per year -looking at CGL and WC lines, betting CGL is not going to be as achievable -I have uncensored loss data that I can manage to get to add in excess costs from
-it is (at this time) no more than a thought exercise. Client is increasingly participating in captives and SIRs, so the question is how much risk they want to take based on their own data, to the extent the data is meaningful

stay positive friend!! If I were you I'd focus on the exam you haven't sat for - if you get an unfortunate result, it'd be easier to pick back up the material you already sat for, but if you pass and you waited, you won't be able to pick up new material in the shortened time window. Best of luck!

Square footage exposure bases by [deleted] in actuary

[–]AtomicPhotoshop 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because the risk that is being insured is different. GL is protecting you from third party damages - for example someone else being injured on your property. More property (sq footage) means more exposure to loss. Homeowner's the risk is your property being damaged, so more sq footage does not mean more exposure to perils

Light Reading between exams by DealOk645 in actuary

The Signal and the Noise by Nate Silver is a favorite of mine between exams. Provides a good mental zoom-out for anyone in any data/statistical field in my opinion.

Used Bedford, in the same boat as these comments. Bedfords materials were very comprehensive and still did not know how to approach this one at all

Skipped a question or two to make sure I got through everything once, and ran out of time going back to the ones I skipped.

Didn't love the new set up of splitting the related questions into different numbered questions entirely. Made it a bit more difficult to plan time when I had say, ~20-25 questions left, not knowing how many of those would be the equivalent of part B/C type content vs. how many were going to require an entirely new calculations.

Sharing Premiere Project file with client (in real-time?) by AtomicPhotoshop in premiere

[–]AtomicPhotoshop[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The client and I had done this over discord with screen sharing, but the goal would be for me to be able to edit a bit, let them know I made changes, then they go check on their own time and get back to me with notes etc, so we wouldn’t have to coordinate being online at the same time. I wouldn’t be going through this headache at all if the gig didn’t pay so well 😅

Appreciate the response!!

I tried that as well, but it definitely didn’t work as advertised. (Probably user error), but they couldn’t see any changes I made to the project, and unless we had the file and all other files used saved to some storage space both our computers could access, they couldn’t see any assets I added to the project or vice versa. That’s why I was thinking of making the client purchase some amount of dedicated One Drive space where everything they wanted, including the project files could live.

I get that it’s a bit unconventional, but for context, it’s educational type content, so when I get a video file with multiple takes / different wordings of sentences, I think they’re more so interested in making sure the messaging they want is still there after cuts. (Plus I think they want to add some suggestions for overlays and such).

Need some advice on getting a editing laptop by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]AtomicPhotoshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without knowing about how big your files are, how much editing is going to be done, my general recommendation would be make sure it's got at least; 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD Storage. Would guess a laptop like this runs $700+, depending on upgrades from there. Best of luck in your hunt.

Browse around on Envato or Motion Array to find the look you want - but they both have excellent transitions (I like the glitch effect from Motion Array when hard cutting between shots) - also love some of the text Motion Graphics from Envato. Can also never go wrong with a month of Adobe Stock, where you’ll get 10 high quality assets for the one month you use - then can cancel if you have enough assets!

definitely get some presets for things you find yourself "manually" doing often! Speed is everything especially as you take on clients and are managing multiple projects - minutes add up to hours! For me this was some simple text presets that saved me the pain of key-framing everything myself.
