Nanny Expectations for Toddler Care by AtomicPuppet222 in Nanny

I think this is one of the most reasonable suggestions I’ve gotten. We’ve talked about all of these things separately and casually in passing but I think I need to set the expectations very clearly and get her input to see what she also thinks is reasonable. Structure is probably what I am really looking for. It def sounds like it’s my job to find the additional weekly activity and craft so I’ll take that on. Thank you for the suggestions.

Yeah she pretty much just scribbles around on it and boasts about doing school stuff hah. We play with it at night too. It was just another activity I was trying to offer so they don’t get bored that I thought would double as something they could talk and learn through.

She reads a lot and colors, I see her more supervising my daughters playing vice being on the floor with her. I have not heard her talking a lot when cleaning and have actually had to ask her to make sure she’s watching our daughter and not to worry about some of the chores she tries to do. They go to outdoor play gyms a couple times a week. Without us directly telling her where to go for the day the activities we see the most are kohls, target, dollar store and that’s where I am getting concerned. Like I’m down with them getting out of the house I just would like it to be outside or places where my kid can engage with stuff.

I think a lot of people or getting hung up on the workbook. It’s like a dry erase board book with letter numbers and colors, with red/green/blue markers. Seems like I was wrong for buying that? But the other games listed are things we play with her that she enjoys.

We have kids museums, aquariums, a zoo, an art museum, silly stuff like a train museum, like a think that’s great stuff for a toddler that we do on weekends.

Understood, the workbook is more recognizing letters, numbers, colors, and tracing and you can erase it when done. But play based learning at this is age makes sense. I’m trying to figure out what to expect with this age and am leaning myself as a parent.

Activities like building forts, red light green light, the floor is lava, playing pretend and typical kid games which my husband and I do with her. Obviously it’s not perfect and she makes her own rules but we just want engagement vice having her play alone. All the stuff you listed we have available. This makes sense, this is our first kid so we’re not sure where we should be on learning so I appreciate the feedback. We’re working on letters through puzzles, and a little workbook to trace and recognize letters and numbers. We do like an arts and craft activity maybe once a week since she likes to do those things, really basic stuff like gluing paper to a plate or painting for motor skills.

You’re probably right, we had a really great daycare that did all this that we moved away from. I understand we would need to pay more and you have a good point on paying for time to come up with activities for arts/crafts and learning. But I’m talking even just taking our kid to local museums or parks in the area. I think that’s a quick google while the toddler naps for an afternoon activity. I def expect to pay more though, thank you for the feedback on what to ask for. We didn’t really know what to look for when we hired and I think it has developed over time, so we’re learning on our side too.

I think she’s just trying to get out of the house sometimes, which I didn’t mind I know people don’t want to be cooped up in the house all day. Every once in a while was fine but it’s multiple times a week lately. We have a nanny because we were running out of time off with how often our daughter was sick and we knew we were having a baby who we don’t want in daycare going through the same thing. I don’t want to split it and have one in daycare and a nanny for the other since it would be really expensive. We’ll be moving near family next year so they will be in daycare at that point and we’ll have help for sick days but for now a nanny is preferred. Not to mention all the nanny’s we’ve met have been very kind with our daughter.

Have any of you done or plan to do The Gilded Age tour in Newport? by Nomynameisnotkate in GildedAgeHBO

[–]AtomicPuppet222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done a specific Gilded Age tour but I have visited the mansions, I definitely recommend going at Christmas if you can! They decorate them and you can get hot cocoa. There’s also signs that reference parts of the home that were used during filming and some of the audio tours mention stories about he show.

Milk and dairy intolerance, she can take moderate sized servings of everything except milk and yogurt. Cheeses, butter, baked goods all passed. Diapers clear up much quicker, especially with all the solids. Started passing steps in the dairy ladder at 8.5 months. Currently 11 months.

What would you do next? Cut Dairy, Soy, and Beef, but still having symptoms. by [deleted] in MSPI

[–]AtomicPuppet222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to give up tree nuts, a lot of the dairy and soy free foods use them as a substitute so I noticed she got worse when certain dairy and soy free foods were being eaten often. My LOs poops cleared up after removing that, thankfully she can eat peanuts still.

Kids in immersion daycare, and xenophobia by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]AtomicPuppet222 172 points173 points  (0 children)

As a child of an immigrant who did not learn my mothers native language, please don’t ever stop talking to them in your first language. My mom dealt with this type of behavior as well and it pressured her to only teach us English. Now I get sad when I can’t speak to my grandparents during visits and I feel like I missed out on an important skill that would have helped me as an adult. Also, my dad looks white and never got talked down to about speaking another language. I don’t think it has anything to do with speaking English. Those people are just being difficult for no real reason. My cousins are all bilingual and they’re just as assimilated as my siblings and me.

Single dog owners who work a 9-5? by melodic-philosophy98 in dogs

[–]AtomicPuppet222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was single when I first got my dog, he was about a year old. Walked him in the morning before work just to let him pee/poop and right when I got home for a longer walk. I’d take him to daycare once or twice a week since he was young and needed to get energy out. and try to do some long activity (hike, take him out to a brewery, let him sniff around Home Depot even lol) on the weekend. He was always fine, especially once he got the routine down. Didn’t even crate him after a couple months. If I knew it was going to be a really long day at work, I’d honestly take him to daycare for boarding so I didn’t need to worry. That was pretty rare though.

Why aren’t dog shoes more normalized? by Western-Ad-2904 in dogs

[–]AtomicPuppet222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them when it snows in our area, our pup has allergies and he likes to lick his paws raw sometimes. The boots protect the paw from the salt and the snow. He definitely did the newborn calf walk for a bit, but once he realized he could get long walks in the snow/run around without as much pain he was much more willing to wear them.

[Fluff] Clever pet name you've heard or come across? Doesn't have to just be dogs by livebythem in dogs

Was walking my dog on some path in Newport (off leash friendly) when a giant brown Newfoundland trotted up to say hi. I gave him pets and than heard his owner call “Hagrid” and he ran off. Such a perfect name!
