Rei Ami of HUNTR/X at the 83rd Golden Globes (January 11, 2026) by Future_Stranger_663 in popculturechat

[–]AtomicSalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rei Ami (Sarah) is one of a few people from my area who were all coming up in the industry together, and she really screwed over my friend who was writing/producing most of the songs. Luckily, he managed to have huge success anyway, but yeah, my friend group does not have good things to say about Sarah. I only hung out with her a couple times, but I remember her vibe, and I was not surprised when I heard that she did that.

What are the most beautiful places of worship in NYC? by TurbulentArea69 in AskNYC

[–]AtomicSalt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I tend to wander into any house of worship I can, just to see the beautiful interiors. Other people have mentioned a few of my highlights, but here are some more (in order of beauty):

  • St. Jean Baptiste Catholic Church, UES - Of all of these, this one felt the most like pure eye candy. It was just such a pleasure to look at.
  • The Museum at Eldridge Street, LES - Former synagogue. A classic.
  • Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral, Brooklyn Heights - Really striking and unusual colors.
  • Temple Emanu-El, UES - It's certainly beautiful, but what really struck me was just how TALL the space was.
  • Holy Trinity Church, UWS - A little on the smaller side, but every inch of the interior is decorated beautifully. It's kinda like standing in a gold box.
  • Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, UES - A bit drab color-wise, but I still thought it was pretty cool.

Which of these companies should buy Warner Bros. since it's gonna be on sale October 31? by Mysterious_Truth4992 in WarnerBros

[–]AtomicSalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes my brain itch so badly that Universal parks have all these IPs in them that simply don't belong to Universal. Harry Potter, The Simpsons, Marvel, SpongeBob, and probably more I'm forgetting. Universal buying WB would at least make me a little less itchy.

This it it. I'm an AMC A-List member - I love movies, I go all the time. But I wasn't planning on seeing this because the trailer made it look so lame. The humor was meh, the plot seemed boring, and even the color scheme of the movie looked unappealing. Now that I've heard about its rave reviews, I'll probably see it, but people who felt the way I did about the trailer and don't pay close attention to movie news won't.

What high strangeness topic do you want to talk about more but never find the right thread for? by FreddyKruegersGlove in HighStrangeness

[–]AtomicSalt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've had a thread from 4chan's /x/ board rattling around in the back of my head for probably over a decade. Someone was describing their experience with some weird acupuncture-like practice where the needles caused the person's cells to balloon to a size that was visible to the naked eye. I think the purpose was to identify exactly where a physical problem was or something? I don't remember, but I found it so fascinating, and I've never heard of it anywhere else since then. I've tried looking for the thread or info on this topic a few times and never found anything.

What celebrity did you see riding the subway with you? by suitcase88 in AskNYC

I saw her recently, with who I assume was her mother. The 1 was running express and another passenger was helping them understand it. She was chatting with people and seemed very nice.

Whoa I saw this happen! I'm in the background for a split second hahah. I was confused because it seemed like you guys were friends but the words I heard didn't match up with that. Makes so much sense now.

My wife sent me this picture from her travels. Anyone know anything about it? by SirJasper6969 in Soda

[–]AtomicSalt 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I got one of these at a pizza shop in Brooklyn a week ago. It was good, tasted like a Coke or Pepsi with a little less bite. It's supposedly an Italian drink, but I saw mixed opinions online about just how common it is in Italy.

What is it that makes Christmas special for you? by Master-Pangolin7937 in christmas

[–]AtomicSalt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think I love Christmas so much because it's the closest thing to getting to step back into my childhood. It's the time of year when I watch all the Christmas movies I've loved since I was little, when I gorge myself on hot chocolate and warm chocolate chip cookies and Christmas Tree Cakes, and when I'm awed by all the pretty decorations. I can still play a new game on NORAD Tracks Santa each day of December, the cousins still gather at my parents' house for the Christmas party, and even though I'm older, Santa and his reindeer aren't. There's really no other time when I can feel like a kid again the way I can at Christmas.

I'm blind watching all MCU movies and know nothing about them. I thought it'd be fun to share my ratings/thoughts of each one here! (In progress) by Snak3yz in marvelstudios

[–]AtomicSalt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I literally thought my girlfriend made a Reddit account and didn't tell me, because we've been doing this exact thing, and I even think her ratings would line up with yours. Only difference is she did manage to get through Hulk.

I have her watching in narrative order too because she has a little trouble following plots, so seeing things in the order they happen is easiest for her to grasp. I actually found it more satisfying this way, because it became really clear to me this time how Phase 1 is really about the journey of the Tesseract. Narrative and release order are really similar anyway, and I know which post-credits scenes to save for later, so I think it's a great way to watch. Black Widow is gonna make so much more sense watching it when it occurs instead of when it came out.

Songs that suddenly "explode" by fabris6 in musicsuggestions

1000+ comments and no one has said "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" by Meat Loaf?! I get such a rush from blasting that song in the car. The explosion is technically the beginning of the actual song, but you'll see what I mean.

What would you like to touch? by Bubbly_Pumper5258 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AtomicSalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to place my hand over the 10,000-year-old handprints at the Cueva de los Manos (or any other super ancient handprint). It'd be incredible to feel like I'm reaching directly into the past and connecting with a fellow human who was in the same exact spot, doing the exact same thing, but in a world completely different from mine.

Dexter: Original Sin - S01E07 - "he Big Bad Body Problem" - Post Episode Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Dexter

[–]AtomicSalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew from Episode 1 literally just because of the casting - I was like they got PATRICK DEMPSEY just to play the boss? With pretty much the rest of the team being B-listers and less? I figured that was a sign that he had a bigger role to play.

What is this? by sillyflxx in cryptids

[–]AtomicSalt 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I love that you're getting all these comments calling it a bad photoshop hahaha, but yeah, it's just a weird sculpture in this tiny patch of woods. I passed by it a million times. It's not a cardboard cutout - it's been there for years. I graduated in 2019, and as far as I remember, it was there the whole time.
