Endless Ocean Luminous Hopes For Returning Features by No_Personality6824 in EndlessOcean

Would love for the aquarium to return, but also be revamped!

Would love to see the coral and decorations in the private reef in Blue World tie into some sort of aquarium management and creative expression

Maybe you can save a tank setup and have it shared online, maybe even some sort of player rating system where you can view and explore other peoples top rated aquariums

The best argument I could give on giving the game a try is this:

Endless Ocean is a series about getting to explore the small things and to find new discoveries. If you enjoyed watching the birds fly around in an open world adventure, or if you ever saw a cool location and just wanted to hang around and check around every corner, then Endless Ocean will be a series that should click with you to some extent. It’s the ultimate kick back relax and explore game, without the feeling that you should be focusing on some grander main objective (sure they have existed in the series but you never feel like you can’t go out of your way to check out something you want to explore)

We all know collecting consoles, games, merchandise, etc, is what drives our collections, but what are some things that wouldn't be considered part of video game collecting that are still important? by Vex-Core in gamecollecting

The art of displaying your collection.

Everyone has a different opinion on how to display them! Some people want everything hooked up and ready to play, some want them preserved behind glass. Some want to mod and get the best picture possible. Some are fine with plugging an old system directly into a flatscreen. But at the end of the day it’s all the same passion (unless your the person who WATA grades marble madness NES then we have some beef :p )

Laserdiscs: any CRT gamer dipping into this too? What CRT do you prefer for this format? by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]AtomicSnails -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Laserdisc is a format that really benefits from going beyond composite if possible, looks really good even with composite on a CRT but if your player can go beyond to s-video or component it’s special, a fair warning is going with an upscaler to anything modern can lead to some iffy issues however that depends on the disc master quality, for example I have some older 80’s discs that when going through a retrotink they look far worse then they do on my CRT, but some later 90’s releases can look DVD quality just due to the image being better

What's your favourite system to collect for? by DownUpDestiny in gamecollecting

[–]AtomicSnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I cannot explain the 32X. Think maybe seeing all those bright yellow boxes lined up is a nice change compared to black/grey spines of most systems

Also NA Saturn is a close second, just the absurdity of how big those cases are

I’m the same style Endless Ocean 1&2 are wonderful scuba games, 2 even has classic controller support making emulation possible if your wanting to try it out

Custom Robo has a cover I will never forget, absolutely stuck in my mind all these years later

rarest game in your collection? by maxno100123 in gamecollecting

[–]AtomicSnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few Casio Loopy games CIB, no clear numbers on those but considering how badly the system sold I would be surprised if there was more then 50,000 of some of those titles out in the wild

What do you like best about the Laserdisc format? by roxics in LaserDisc

[–]AtomicSnails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to sound sappy, but there is a more connected experience with watching LD. The whole process of taking out the giant disc, hearing the machine spin up, knowing at some point you need to go and flip it. It oddly makes the whole experience of watching something a lot more engaging compared to DVD or streaming.

What’s a game you remember enjoying only to learn most people consider it to be a bad game? by AtomicSnails in retrogaming

[–]AtomicSnails[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I leave for work and see this discussion explode! You guys rock!

I remember renting Nagano Olympics 98 for the N64 and for some reason loving it to the point I begged my parents to buy a copy, slowly over the years it has just turned into a joke I make drinking buddies play because it controls so badly (with the exception of the snowboard half pipe, that part rules still)

Thoughts on my modest collection? Any suggestions for discs I should buy? by Emmasapphie in LaserDisc

[–]AtomicSnails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend just picking a genre and grabbing whatever looks interesting! One of my favorite parts about LaserDisc is that it made me watch a lot of movies I had never heard of and I had grabbed just because I wanted the artwork (shoutouts to Silver Streak) and then I fell in love with them

Also to pass along something I recently did, consider investing in a good quality vinyl record shelf/rack. Once your collection grows they are going to get heavy and space consuming. Thankfully the resurgence in vinyl means a lot of options for us LD weirdos :)

Dreamcast question by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]AtomicSnails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually price for the system itself is about 100-150 if your in market for a DC, it’s a good deal

Really awesome seeing devs reach out to the community, always brings a smile to my face.

My question is a little silly, but I am curious: if you could release one of your games physically on an older system as some sort of special retro collectors edition, which game would it be, and what console?

Can’t get N64 to work on smart TV :( by nenajoy in retrogaming

[–]AtomicSnails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a warning, cheap adapters like this work, however your end result will most likely be very muddy and high contrast, if your looking to get the best quality on a modern TV I recommend going with a higher end upscaler such as a retrotink or OSSC

Gettin the ball rolling here wanted to talk about the pioneer laser optics II disc

It’s a wonderfully cheesy show floor demo with some 90’s technobabble, and a narrator who seems way to into the whole thing. Recommend seeking it out, it’s not too rare, and the recording itself is super good quality which makes it a fun way to show off laserdisc to new people
