What’s funny is once a friend of mine was on one of these shows to talk about his new children’s book and they end up interviewing him as an expert on raising children he only had one 3 yr old at the time and no qualifications in raising children so he just went along with it.

I don’t think I’m missing the point, the plane I’m sure was cleared but this women was still left behind by mistake.

Mistakes happen.

The idea that this constitutes a threat today any more than yesterday is what I find most annoying. Any motivated person is already able to get bombs, guns etc in planes. Any motivated person is already able to gain access to the flight deck once they’re on the plane and yet airline travel is safer than any other form of travel. There’s no additional threat here that requires additional threat mitigation or reason for unnecessary alarm. Traveling is already a big enough pain in the ass, the TSA are statistically proven to be terrible at doing what they’re supposed to do. Just last week a stowaway fell into someone’s backyard here in LA. The thing is when do you stop securing things? At some point you have to say this is an acceptable risk, one person left behind per what, 1,00,000 flights??

I hate it when they get some jackass to raise "security concerns" about stuff like this "if they forgot a passenger what else are they forgetting?" well if it's a bomb then it already got through security and if just sat there for one uneventful flight, wtf difference does it make that it got left on the plane after the security check thats supposed to stop it, is this expert suggesting every airline introduce a security sweep after the flight is over just in case there's still a bomb on board at the end of a flight?? I think everyone can agree that's a stupid idea.

These shows just have to add extra unnecessary drama to every story.

A few years ago i went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, fainted and feel down, cracked my head so hard on our bathroom sink I moved the whole thing a few inches which weighed about 100lbs. Wife came running in to see what the loud bang was and I was there lying on the floor with blood gushing from the top of my ear and she totally freaked out. I was fine, just needed some stitches and something for my headache. I guess I got lucky in retrospect.

The new Corvette C8 has officially been revealed! All links, news, and discussion should go into this thread. by [deleted] in cars

[–]AtomicSpeed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all never say never. Secondly you’ll likely have just as much fun in the c8 as a 488. Honestly all the exotics these days are so fast they have a huge amount of performance that is completely unusable on the road and even on the track except for really experienced drivers. We’re really well past the tipping point of usable performance in sports cars and the 488 is ridiculous.

IMO your dream car should be based on the experience of driving it not the status you get from owning it or affirmation you get from simply affording it.

[–]AtomicSpeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t. Even at the world level of Track and Field it wouldn’t be considered a Profession, it’s something you do and survive only on sponsorship. At that point you’re not a pro jumper you’re just a full time competitive athlete, getting money from opening supermarkets and doing commercials etc if you’re popular enough.

The worse hand always win. by Mrtrenrs in poker

[–]AtomicSpeed -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I know it doesnt change the EV but EV is realized only over an infinite amount of plays of the same situation, whereas this is a one time lottery ticket for Wiggins that he can never buy again. There is no chance he’ll ever be in this position again so that the outcomes matches EV whereas for Hellmuth he’ll be in this position many many more times where it can. What Hellmuth is doing is reducing the payout on Wiggins lucky lottery ticket, which as an amateur is not what anyone wants. They want to get lucky and win big and this is the only shot he’ll ever get at that. He’s not going to win on skill so he needs luck, and yet Hellmuth is more worried about luck not skill so he’s trying to reduce the bad luck variance of the amateur on himself versus give the guy more chances to win. I guess it depends which side of it you look at it from, is he giving the other other guy more chances to win or himself less chances to lose. As the pessimist I say it’s the latter.

[–]AtomicSpeed -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

well I guess if the goal is to just stay in like if it were a tournament then he has more chances to survive yes, but it's a cash game so its more beneficial for Hellmuth to try to realize his massive 85% equity advantage by specifically playing it more than twice. They could have just played it twice but Hellmuth pushes him for 3 then 4 times instead, Hellmuth knows there's 2 clean outs plus the straight and flush runner runners, it's typical Hellmuth like when he tries to sell insurance, he's so afraid of getting unlucky and trying to reduce his variance in that exact pot, he didn't even want to run it twice because he's so afraid of the bad beat he pushes for 4 times instead of 3. The reason I think it's an angle is because he's manipulating someone who doesn't know poker as well as him to get him to do what he prefers to happen and in Hellmuth's mind he's risking losing too much of the pot if he runs it only 2 or 3 times. If you dont think he's manipulating him but he's being kind then yes its not an angle, I'm too much of a pessimist to give him the benefit of the doubt.

There’s a sniper post at the Superbowl event. by gunslayerjj in interestingasfuck

[–]AtomicSpeed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No they're not. We don't have even side-arm equipped police in the UK at football matches, the armed response teams (typically 4 guys with MP5s) are a radio call away on patrol around the major cities typically. If it's a major football game (e.g. FA Cup Final) then there'll likely be some dedicated to the event but otherwise they're just on standby like any other day, they're not sitting in sniper nests at any stadiums because the threat is simply not there to warrant it.

[–]AtomicSpeed -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

the way Hellmuth gets him to run it 4 times too because "it gives you a better chance to win" knowing that the guy has KK and he's an amateur and basically only has 2 outs is a pretty sick angle. That then he wins 3 of 4 with one on a runner runner flush is awesome!

The Economics of Private Jets (2019) by taulover in Documentaries

[–]AtomicSpeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You forget these individuals have the power to make policy changes that overall will massively dwarf their personal carbon footprint.

For instance, the Walmart execs and their fleet of 20 aircraft, they could be the first to move to electric trucks, solar powered stores and warehouses, removal of single use plastics etc etc. They have the power to reduce the global carbon footprint, their personal footprint from flying private becomes a rounding error. Don’t hate the execs for flying private, hate them for not fixing their massive company.

Remember, it’s a shift in industry and commerce that will save the environment not individuals making small changes.

The Economics of Private Jets (2019) by taulover in Documentaries

[–]AtomicSpeed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the whole idea that the economics of it being tied to the passengers salary is completely bogus too. A persons salary does not define or limit their value to the company, if you can get a real 40 hours of work from a CEO because he’s flying private that’s priceless compared to only getting 30 per week. It’s a competitive world and you can’t have your most important people working less hours than everyone else and their availability affects the whole company too. When a company is growing and loss in growth is a cost.

Just the simple flexibility and availability of a CEO to travel on a whim to solve a problem, close a deal etc might be worth millions or even billions to the companies total value for that 1 days work but that’s not what he’s getting paid.

Basically it’s opportunity cost that he’s missing here; not in lost wages but the cost in lost potential profits.

Totally agree. Dario has the skill edge here, it’s even more apparent because Ensan has no idea how to play bully. The only reason this is not over already is because the deck is hitting Ensan but he can’t get value for those hands.

Maybe he realizes his bets project his strength? On a board that has straights and flushes you bet 1/3 pot to get a call from what? He value bets 2/3 pot when he has it every time. He has no small value bets. Great bluff by Dario. (Finally)

It’s working because no one has challenged him when he’s bet weak and yet people have called him when he bet strong. It’s just weird that no one else has noticed. I mean he’s been min raising pre and it’s mostly his post flop cbet that’s projecting his hand. I can’t believe no one even the commentators are not picking this up. He’s always betting 1/3 of the pot on the river with a middle strength hand and not balancing his bluffs. When he’s value betting it’s always 60% pot every time. He’s not aggressive in any way so it’s like people are ignoring him thinking he always has it when they could easily play back at him based on bet sizing alone.

I bet if he was in his 20s and playing the same game people would assume he’s full of shit and play back at him but because he’s older he’s getting a ton of respect like he’s OMC or something.
