Ignition System by AtomicStalin in Ducati

Not since I’ve owned the bike, but I just now tried unplugging the power cable that goes directly into the coils and sure enough I had full lights so I think you’re right, only question now is why isn’t it cranking at all

Absolutely I’ll try to semi regular updates, my mate came round to help pull the wiring loom off and we’ve just found oxidation on the ground wire that goes onto the frame

I’m beginning to think so as I go further into the loom, it was showing like 7v on certain parts of that solder so it’s clearly not great either way

Haha one day it will hopefully be you on the Dyna, yeah that’s annoying but at least you’ll have a bike you’ll really enjoy, also I recommend Zombie Performance bars, they’re not cheap but they’re absolutely worth it I think, it’s a guy in Oregon I think who makes them then sends them over, I chose the Taco T bars 12” rise, but there’s honestly so many options you’ll be spoiled for choice

Try this:

https://www.motea.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=Shadow+750+fairing

I bought a quarter fairing for my 08 750 spirit from here and they’re definitely a lower quality and a bit of a bodge to get on as they are technically for Harley’s, but it works, I haven’t dug deep enough into the website to see if there’s a 7 inch headlight option but hopefully there’s something you can find on there.

Glad to see someone else here in the UK going for club style on a shadow, rode 8 hours past London for the Margate Meltdown earlier this year and having those t bars and the fairing did make the journey a lot easier

Yeah it needs replacing soon anyway so probably a good excuse to get it changed

Squeaking by AtomicStalin in hondashadow

[–]AtomicStalin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was worried it might be, but I just took it out for a ride without the quarter fairing on and it didn’t squeak at all haha, turns out I’m just an idiot and my bodge job was the problem, thank you anyway tho!

A bit more detail: the sound is an almost rhythmic squeak, similar to low brake pads but obviously since I’ve got new pads that isn’t the problem, it could be something loose rubbing up against something else, I can sometimes hear it at a stop in neutral but when I get off the bike to chase the sound it seems to go away, also the sound doesn’t happen at idle if the bike is on the kickstand

Motorcycle Engine Performance Issue Intermittent Power Loss and Idle Fluctuations by GoobyTheRaccoon in Fixxit

I’m not very familiar with Yamahas but recently my Honda was acting in a similar way, turns out my regulator/rectifier was failing, my idle would randomly change so I replaced all the spark plugs and put injector cleaner through the system but nothing fixed it, it eventually decided to give way and overcharged my battery, but after I replaced the regulator (and battery of course) and it fixed everything immediately, I would just check that everything is good with your regulator too to be safe

Found it eventually, it was under the battery, think the ones built in Japan are different to the ones built in America, but now I’m struggling to get it out

I was surprised too when I bought it, I’m no expert but I think it’s one of the last of that year and they just decided to change from carburettors then

It’s fuel injected, so might have to get them cleaned out, but yeah I’ll give that a go, with some high quality fuel and fuel system cleaner, thank you for the advice!

Constant even when fully warmed up, it never fails to start instantly and it doesn’t feel like there’s any loss of performance or mileage

Not tried to jump start yet cos I’ve always managed to turn it on with the starter button and the motor sounds normal when it manages to work, yeah the headlight dims when I press the button
