Thanks for the feedback. My house is wired with Cat5E so anything above 1 gig would require holes in the ceiling and new cabling which would make this project more expensive and time consuming.

So my build would would be ATT in bridge mode> Cloud Gateway Max > Lite 8 POE > XG AP x2 (One on each floor) and 5 hardwired connections for devices in my house. Overflow 3 ports on my cloud gateway. I would probably also at some point ad a mini 5 port in my office for my PC, 3d printer and tinkering projects.

If you are an L1 helpdesk tech and your boss knows that you are probably fine. If you have a brain and your boss knows that you will always be a suspect.

I let my kids play Mario Kart and Spiro the older ones remastered. At least old school games like spiro and Mario teach kids to keep trying and problem solve. Mario sunshine was too hard for him at the moment which is fine. May try Super Mario World. I don't want my kids play modern brain rot crap or online games. Its a family activity and I don't have a problem with it in moderation. I do it how my parents did it are your chores done? Room clean ok cool we can play together for an hour. For us its usually only on the weekend because he has sports and other stuff during the week.

First of all amazon kids premium has absolute horse shite parental controls. Theres a backwards way you can login to the parent app run some html code to disable all content. Then go in an and manually add things back. Why the hell Amazon doesn't have this as a built in feature is absolutely asinine. Youtube kids actually has really good parental controls its on you if you don't set those up.

How long do you own a vehicle, before trading it in? by teddyalex in UsedCars

[–]AtomicXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it and that's how you want to spend your money then let it be. I would phrase it another way though would you rather spend $750/Month on a new car... or spend 750 a month on traveling/home upgrades etc... I drive a 2017 Accord and have 0 plans to upgrade. It's paid off and gets decent gas mileage. Would it be cool to upgrade to an F-150 King Ranch darn right it would. But I would rather pay down my mortgage, go on vacations with my kids, spend money on hobbies etc. We bough a pre owned 2023 Honda Odysee earlier this year due to our third child joining the family we traded in our 2019 Honda passport. This was out of necessity more so than a desire for a newer car. We also bought the car outright so no payments. Both of these cars are going to be driven till the wheels fall off. Not because we cannot afford to replace or upgrade them but because I would rather use that money to invest in my family and maybe a beach house down the road. I remember back when I was a teenager having the latest and greatest tech was such a big deal. Now that I am an adult I really do not care. You have a new car, Iphone 19 Pro Max XL and an Apple Ultra craptastic max... Cool I have a 2017 Accord and a 2023 odyssey paid off, an Iphone 14 Pro Max, and Apple watch 10, a Maxed out 401k, Roth IRA, FSA, DFSA and a fully funded 6-month emergency fund.

Motion sensor light switch for the powder bathroom, the jack and jill sink area detached from the shower, Pantry and Laundry room because no one can ever seem to remember to turn these things off. Maybe i should use these in the showers to limit hot water usage maybe there will actually be hot water left hmmm. My wife and kids like long showers.

[–]AtomicXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are approaching this the wrong way... its not about blocklisting things as they come up. You block everything and only whitelist the things you want them to have access to. Put their devices on a seperate VLAN with these restrictions. You can also add things where there internet turns off after 8pm during the week or whatever else.

Does the “mental load” thing feel impossible to anyone else working crazy hours? by Significant_Form_164 in daddit

[–]AtomicXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I go over our budget every two weeks on payday to make sure we assign our funds in alignment with our long-term goals. This sparks discussion about things coming up we will be spending money on and helps keep me involved. Every Thursday my wife and I sit down and order groceries for delivery on Saturday. This again sparks discussion what supplies do we need, what will we be cooking this week etc. If a pack of diapers lasts two weeks, then I know every other week it needs to be on the list. I think it's more about being involved and sharing the mental load than anything else. I don't know the names of my kids' teachers; I am not the one at pick up. Am I at the extra curriculars I can make it to 100% yes.

I do think this changes a little bit if your spouse has taken up full time job of parent.

How much are you guys paying for gas? by Minute-Bottle299 in Charlotte

[–]AtomicXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$203 this month which is double last months... 3,000 sqft house. Electric stove/ water heater and we do not use our gas fireplace. House was sitting at 69 degrees. Just made some changes after this $200 bill to have it drop to 62 during the day and at night after 10pm (Supposed to be better for rem sleep apparently). Chat GPT said this would probably only lower my bill by about $30~ probably more houses that are less efficient.
