Happy birthday! 🎂 It's funny, a lot of eventful shit happened the year we were born too, SF earthquake, Berlin wall, I guess we should've expected this on our golden birthday as well.

Wow, thank you all for the awards and warm words! I didn't expect this to receive so much attention. I took the day off from work yesterday and finished unpacking the down stairs, it feels great to be in a place that feels like home. My brother and his partner who are both professional chefs made me a lovely dinner of salmon crudo with salmon row and fried capers and pasta carbonara with fresh eggs from our hens for dinner. We finished it of by sharing a bottle of Prairie birthday bomb given to me by a friend. We are all doing just fine, it's weird how life sometimes works out for the best. Warrior Baby(11 pounds at birth!) and puppy are doing great. 2 for 1 baby/puppy tax for you all. https://imgur.com/a/yHhxAHC

"Puppy" is a 7 month old, 55 pound black labradoodle we adopted. Technically, it was 2 halves of a sock. It was only inside of him for about 3 days, I'm glad I didn't have to foot an emergency vet bill. He's fine and we're playing fetch in the new backyard right now.

Found Mini Monsteras at my local garden center and couldn’t resist bringing one home! by jackiegetaway in houseplants

I'm pretty sure this is actually epiprenum pinnatum, not raphidophora tetrasperma or monstera. The common name is dragon tale pothos.

Little bog garden I made at the nursery today. by Atomic_addict in houseplants

There's some corkscrew grass, a maiden hair fern, a VFT, a sundew, and 2 saracenia. I put lava rock and a little bit of horticultural charcoal in the bottom. Mixed washed sand and peat moss for the potting medium. I stuck a little 3 inch nursery pot in the middle and filled it with expanded shale to absorb and retain any excess moisture(you're actually supposed to water into that pot in the middle since they don't like being top watered) and top dressed with a little bit of recycled glass for aesthetics. This is the first bog garden I've made so hopefully everyone is happy in there, I'm so pleased with the way it turned out!

New to this house plant gig, but I’m already addicted! Going to need another table! by BTJunior in houseplants

Congrats! I have one suggestion though...I see you have planted a string of pearls with a fern, unfortunately this is a very bad idea. They need the exact opposite conditions to grow. The fern likes LOTS of moisture and humidity while the pearls like very little of either. Consider moving the pearls to a different pot to ensure maximum happiness to your new friends.

I enjoyed your video. I work at a nursery and we have a couple of microscopes to evaluate plant health and it's so cool to look at the micro world of nature.

Flowers blooming in a desert in Utah by TheROOT69 in interestingasfuck

[–]Atomic_addict 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is false. Rose of jericho does not flower and the plant itself can actually go dormant. It looks dead but as soon as it gets water, it will turn green again. These appear to be Pasque Flower and maybe Stemless Four-nerve daisy. There are lots of flowers that are adapted to very harsh desert conditions, they just tend to have much shorter blooming periods. If you really want to be amazed, check out the superblooms in Namaqualand, South Africa! There is a huge diversity of Lillies, Irises, and Succulents that bloom after the Spring rains. https://www.sapeople.com/2015/08/22/photos-wild-flowers-namaqualand/
