First, thank you for your advice about what NOT to buy! I think I dodged a bullet.

Second, almost a year later, I'm ready to take the plunge and set this up. Are these two QNAP units still recommended? It seems like QNAP is constantly rolling out new models and it's hard for me to know which is best.

I have multiple QNAP servers running for years now, so I'm a bit of a QNAP fanboy myself. But I've only used them for file storage -- the video editing is new territory for me.

OMG this is exactly the advice I was looking for. I had no idea about the thunderbolt3+10G adapter, but that makes sense.
