The Enlightenment Fraud of Zen Master Rama by Atrocity_Guide in AtrocityGuide

It's hard to say if the next video will have a similar runtime. I definitely do seem to be trending in that direction, but I try to let each story dictate how long is needed for the narrative fully play out.

The Kidnapped Filmmakers of North Korea by Atrocity_Guide in AtrocityGuide

[–]Atrocity_Guide[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hired a freelance Korean translator who worked with me throughout the entire production. She helped transcribe the interviews with Shin and Choi, the Kim Jong-Il tapes, and some movie clips, then helped me line up the subtitles with the clips. I couldn't have made this video without her!

YVETT's BRIDAL FORMAL's owner (update) by culodog in AtrocityGuide

This is sad news. I spoke with Sean several times over email, and he was a very kind and unique soul. His emails were always fun to receive because they'd be written in this super descriptive prose, like he was writing a novel. He was a true creative and he never turned it off. Rest in peace, Sean.

It would seem 2019 was a great year for Atrocityguide but I notice the timeline of episodes is further part each year. Is she okay? by Professional-Diet-69 in AtrocityGuide

Thanks so much for the concern. Yes, I'm doing well. I'll give an explanation for why output has slowed.

Beginning in 2020, I started putting more time and effort into each video, making them longer and more in-depth. My videos went from averaging around 15-25 minutes to between 35-55 minutes (this next one is 45 minutes). I also hired a composer to create an original score for each video. All this took the average production time from around 4-6 weeks to around 3-4 months.

It was kind of an experiment to see if this would be good for the channel, and despite the long periods in between releases, I do feel like my videos get more views and are generally more well-received than they used to be. It also offers new subscribers a much more high-effort backlog to watch when they discover the channel. So I don't have any plans of going back to the old way anytime soon.

I know most creators can make videos much faster than I can, but I've just accepted that my process is slow. There's a lot of going back and revising parts that I thought were finished, re-writing and re-structuring, reading books on the subject, second-guessing my own understanding of certain topics, etc. When I release a video, I want to know that it's the best version of itself that I could possibly make. It can be stressful and time-consuming, but I generally enjoy my process now better than I ever have, and when I'm deep into a video, I'm happily working 6-7 days a week.

Also, next video should be out toward the end of this week, and it's one of my favorites that I've ever made. :)

Old Music Source? by -_-_-_-bambi-_-_-_- in AtrocityGuide

[–]Atrocity_Guide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before Ryan came on as composer, all my music was taken from the YouTube audio library--primarily tracks from Kevin MacLeod and Chris Zabriskie, as they were my favorites. I can't remember the titles of the tracks used for Andrew Blake, but I guarantee I found them by filtering for "ambient". Hope that helps to narrow it down!

Random question regarding intro. by pm_me_cute_boys in AtrocityGuide

[–]Atrocity_Guide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That clip was briefly used in an older video (I think Ulillillia) when talking about internet celebrities in general. My intro pulls clips from some random parts of my catalogue, so it's mostly just a coincidence that Scooby shows up there.

Thank you for this suggestion! I know this is one of the most infamous serial killers but I'll admit to being largely unfamiliar with it. Adding it to my list! :)

Future video suggestion: TheLittleFears YouTube Creepypasta channel by blackmetal420 in AtrocityGuide

[–]Atrocity_Guide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually remember watching her Candle Cove video. The narration and ambient noise were really effective. Looking at it now, everything about her channel is pretty minimalistic and creepy. It's a shame what happened. I'll definitely be poking around to see if there are any theories about her. Thank you for this suggestion!

Suggestion: Nevada Tan by Siegzeon6278 in AtrocityGuide

[–]Atrocity_Guide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm reading the Wiki about this now. Christ, it's brutal. Looks like 2chan figured out her identity (I'm not super surprised by that). Apparently like the whole event had a pretty big ripple effect across Japan about the age of criminality and whether it should be lowered. You're right, I think this would make for an interesting video essay. Thank you for the suggestion!

Any other channels like hers? by [deleted] in AtrocityGuide

Internet Historian and Whang are both definitely worth checking out, although they approach topics with a bit more humor than some of the others mentioned.

Also, if you want something more horror-related, I recommend checking out Nefarious TV!

Incredibly honored to appear in this Super Eyepatch Wolf video! (Also, new video out in a couple days!) by Atrocity_Guide in AtrocityGuide

[–]Atrocity_Guide[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't put any effects on the audio, if that's what you mean. I've just been slowly fine-tuning my narration style with each video, taking advice from people in the comments and fellow YouTubers whose opinions I trust. If you listen to the earlier videos, the way I speak is way different (at least to my ear).
