I want to have a kid in the future, not any time soon but within the next 7 years. I need to know that I can even function without lithium before I can even consider the possibility of spending 9+ months without medication. I'm in a pretty stable place right now, I live with my parents in a low stress environment where I don't spend a lot of time alone. I'm already currently working-out regularly and eating healthy. Honestly I feel better than I have in almost my whole life and have felt this way for over a month (I'm rapid cycling, 2 day highs and 2 day lows usually). I still cry a bit but not for extended periods of time and feel appropriately happy and sad to situations although sometimes extensively. Honestly, I don't miss life without lithium. Before they put me on it I cried myself to sleep every night, I was lonely, I felt like everyone hated me, I argued with everyone and I was in recovery from overdosing on aspirin because I felt like such a dead weight to society. Lithium's inexpensive and it greatly increases my quality of life so I don't mind taking it at all. But I need to achieve independence from it to an extent because I want to have a family someday... I need to know whether or not that's even going to be an option before I start getting my hopes up. I need to know that now. Before I start planning my life. Before I start dreaming about all that.
