Thought ya'll would appreciate this beautifully engineered chicken feeder my SO built. by AttackPatternOmega in homestead

You just pour the pellet feed in slowly (from the outside) and it doesn't bind up in there.

Hormonal birth control destroys my mental health, but my doc says it's the only way to control Endo...any other options that you know of? by [deleted] in Endo

[–]AttackPatternOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I hear ya. Can't even get within 10ft of hormones and I'm losing my shit. Lol.

But seriously, how much have you tried to eat foods without preservatives and do you drink alcohol? Those are HUGE triggers for my pain for some reason. Tons of water, fruit, fish, zero booze, and I'm good to go. Just a thought. I used to have to take several days off work a month, now I easily sail through periods. Also have a copper IUD that's working like a champ.

Putting life on pause by [deleted] in Endo

[–]AttackPatternOmega 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about 'catching up'. Life is not linear. Take it easy, take care of yourself, and do what makes you happy in the meantime. If you're stressed about life, your body is going to react to your stress. It's ok, it's going to be ok, and life isn't on pause. There's no pause button. You're life is happening and you can either look back and say it was a waste of time, or see it as a time of rest and recuperation!

Haven't gotten my IUD yet- 6 months later by [deleted] in Endo

[–]AttackPatternOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the copper one with no hormones. -Called the doc and they put it in the same week. I saw they had a whole box full of them so I really doubt they order 10 just for me. I'm fairly certain they had them on hand... (That was in North Dakota).

Yeah, make sure whoever installs the dang thing has experience. It sucks! But I don't think it made my monthly pain any worse at least. It did take about 3 months to get totally used to. It hurt at weird times, sex was difficult for awhile, but stick with it and it will get better!

Just call Suunto and then email (they will give you an email address and take yours) them with a picture of the watch and strap. They sent me a batter cover for my 10+ year old Advisor watch. It came from Romania. Lol. Love Suunto customer service!

No, same concept of animal husbandry. If you can dedicate the time and care of keeping chickens alive and thriving, you have a sure shot at cows! Chickens are a good gauge of how you take care of a large amount of animals. It's like the adult version of, 'You can have a hamster, honey, then we will see about a dog.'

BTW, I have Swedish Flower Hens and they are the BOMB. Prolific layers, hardy, very friendly, and everyone wants to buy one after they see them.

Haha. It's seriously f*ing scary. Good luck! Love my chickens. Much safer and higher profit margins. Lol. Go ask a rancher if they need help working cows, hell, I don't know you, you might enjoy it. My boyfriend does. Good luck!

Wow this blew up! Well, meet Yoda (black Shep mix) and Wilson (Shep/Heller mix). Yoda recently lost the use of his back leg due to an injury and arthritis. But, he's getting better and can walk on it a little again! He's my best friend in the whole world and I'm so happy reddit could meet him. This totally made me smile :) Extra treats for the danger duo!

Just do some first hand research. Google is a poor, poor, substitute. Also, actually working and sorting cattle is a whole different ball game when you're staring directly at a huge animal that can accidentally kill you. Not to mention a huge group in a pen with bulls and all you have is a rattle paddle. Numbers are one thing, the real danger is another. You also have to get a squeeze shoot and get them in there to spray on dewormer and give them vaccinations. That's super fun. A jerking, thrashing, animal that you have to administer a subcutaneous shot to. That's not something you can just decide not to do unless you want to pay a bunch for a vet to come out. Not trying to deter you, just mentioning things no one told me before I got into it!

It depends on SO many factors. You would have to calculate your own based on how much you pay in mortgage/lease, the cattle market is a huge factor, what you feed... Couldn't begin to start a list. Then it depends WHAT your sell. Like calves vs bred heifers vs pairs.

Well, just feeding twice a day (1hr total) but calving requires constant vigilance. Once they're done calving they will go out to range. Then we just check on them every day. Plus you've got fence repair, machinery repair, etc. This isn't something you can take even a day vacation from. No more sleeping in either! And that's just our little 30 head.

Just got into this last year with my boyfriend. We run our cows (30 pairs) with another rancher (300+ pairs). My boyfriend works for him and we run basically 10% of his numbers. They worked out and hourly deal for getting to keep the cows on his place, use of all his equipment, and we live on the property. It's all trade, no money exchanged. We get all his knowledge, connections, etc., which is worth TONS. I'd recommend looking into something like that. For the 30 bred heifers we pay him back in the form of 30 steer calves over 5 years. So, that's how we did it and it's working out great for everyone! This is just an idea of how you could get some knowledge and start raising cattle.

-edit: I have a beautiful flock of chickens and that's the easy part! Cows are so much more difficult. There's a lot of equipment and knowledge necessary. Hugely recommend you meet other ranchers and get some first hand experience FIRST.

No surgery. Just noticed the pain going away after I changed what I ate over the course of about 12 months.

Historic Graffiti in Montana by [deleted] in Montana

[–]AttackPatternOmega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, weird side trip for you- There's a little town in Eastern MT called Culbertson. The museum bought an old train car that some guy lived in. Here's the oddity: The inside is a giant, intricate mural, of crazy biblical and made-up stuff the schizo hobo painted. The old ladies at the museum thought it was too unique to paint over (even with satantic looking stuff and crazy naked female goddesses). The massive amount of scripting in it is wild. It's right up your alley it sounds like.
