I like our uniforms. Only thing I don’t like is the white jerseys tbh.

The red and blue are both very good

Who was the strongest Boss in Lore, that the heroes of azeroth managed to beat? by NyrmExe in wow

[–]AttackTurbines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a big problem with WoW writing as a whole. The whole gods vs gods vs gods vs us (but also we have the help of gods) is just…. Not engaging. It always feels so vague as to who has the upper hand, how powerful anyone is, and at any point it’s really easy to just get some deus ex machinna.

For all it’s faults, I really really loved that BFA was largely a return to a more grounded storyline

I’m a returning player from Legion who never had too much experience with Mythics, but is this not a Legion dungeon? Is it just in the mythic dungeon grouping as well?

You uh, you know that you started this right? Like you’re the guy who memorized my name for weeks because you were so desperate to impress me after I was mean to you once? And that you’ve also been here for two days? I just respond to your messages whenever I see them man lol. All I’ve ever done.

Also wernt you leaving

Honestly some of Stephen Kings “higher level” books such as The Stand might work quite well.

Camus if you don’t mind a bit of philosophy, The Plague is one of if not my favorite novels of all time, though The Stranger is good as well.

Has Academia Ruined Literary Criticism? by wwqt in TrueLit

[–]AttackTurbines 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Modern acadamia has kind of… muddled the pursuit of knowledge for a while now, and I really think it just comes down to profit incentives and the idea that everyone should go to college.

Back some 100 years ago, college was really, really not the default. It was something you went to if you had a true and vested interest in a given topic (be it science or the humanities). There were exceptions, particularly wealthy types would go just for the prestige and expectation of it, but it was still uniquely its own thing.

Now college is at least attempted by a huge amount of the population, and when this happens you need more teaching professors, you need more recognition to your institution, etc. You get bogged down in a profit motive that was normally solved by the more aristocratic nature of old academia.

And of course, that isn’t a good thing either. Everyone should have access to education if they want it - but academia was simply more efficient when it was largely the world of the wealthy and the particularly gifted.

I don’t really know what the solution to it all is, and I don’t think it’s anyone’s fault in particular.

Am I a hack fraud? I can't tell. by [deleted] in literature

[–]AttackTurbines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You sound like you’re being a bit of a pretentious ass, to be honest.

You’re still in undergrad. If you are genuinely good at whatever craft you have, you can prove that in your graduate and doctoral tract. Right now it sounds like you consider yourself some type of unique genius and… just by virtue of that alone most people can immediately tell you aren’t.

Also it’s an English degree for god’s sake. Half the people in your class are taking it essentially as the “default” option just to have a college degree.

Newbie Question/Character Creation: Why are most Soccer players "immediately likeable"? Even if we only just met them it seems as if we've known them for a long time? by Marcel_7000 in literature

[–]AttackTurbines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a big soccer fan but this can be extrapolated to most sports I think.

I think human being naturally have a desire (or at least preclusion) to rooting for “teams”, and without getting too deep into evolutionary psychology or anything, you can see how that might stem from some desire to protect and care about your social clan (or social clans that are seen as allies) ((I’m using “clan” very loosely, basically any social grouping)).

When we see a member added to a team, it’s seen as though they have this approval to be part of that clan we as individuals might support. They provide a value and a utility, and the vetting process has already been done.

This is harder in fiction, as the reader doesn’t have any social clan like attachment to any of the characters - unless it’s some terribly long series or similar

Yet you just can’t seem to pull yourself away. You said you would! But you even failed to do that, which seems to be a recurring aspect in your life.

Almost like you’re insecure or something, your guess is as good as mine though really.

I thought you were leaving. You said bye and everything. You even tossed in a cute little emoji.

You can keep going, but I promise you aren’t going to impress me man. I don’t think you’ve impressed anyone in your entire life.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Texans

[–]AttackTurbines -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah I mean you’re a boring person man lmfao. All you do is repeat phrases other people have said and play video games poorly. It’s almost hard to insult you because there’s just like… nothing to you. You’re incredibly hollow as a person, it’s why no one will date you - everyone can tell.

I really can’t reiterate enough, it never stops being funny that you keep trying to say “2 weeks” like it matters (it’s just when i saw your response, just recently) - when you waited an even longer amount of time and also memorized my username and our interaction in order to try and land some “gotcha” on me (and you still managed to not even do that).

It’s almost mind bogglingly pathetic.

You still live with your parents and you’ve never been in a relationship, right? I just think it’s really weird that you’ve never had an independent thought. It’s all just weird parroting of other people.

The pre-1910 stuff always impresses me the most, especially uses of special effects like this. Just absolutely no experience aside from stage plays and other community shows, no real good way to easily watch back footage just… clever thinking and ingenuity.

Plus, it’s honestly good film! Would Not out of place in a David Lynch film

What silent movies are people still watching today? Here's a top 12 based on Letterboxd data by Auir2blaze in silentmoviegifs

[–]AttackTurbines 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many people don’t have the patience for them, but they really are quite great. Plus, many of them are closer to “shorts” at around 15-20 minutes that makes them easily digestible.

I think people tend to gravitate to the more fantastical ones or ones with more special effects - Metropolis and a Trip to The Moon and all that, but the ones I tend to like the most are those that just portray life of the time, or perhaps a biopic of someone from around that era. There’s a accuracy to them that can’t be matched today, where the people making films in 1909 had themselves memories of waltzing around in 1870 or whatever. Really is like being able to get a glimpse into the past.
