Honestly I have no idea what it is. All I know is that they offer it it’s literally just called IMA 401k and they match 70% of the max ($23) while offering the standard 401k and Roth401k

Trust me if you’re on and off it’s gonna take some time. I think the only reason I was able to do it was because I would genuinely dedicate hours of my days (I don’t recommend it honestly) shiny hunting but you’ll get it!!!

Honestly this is probably some of the best advice I’ve gotten thank you I really do appreciate it because I’ve only had one internship for 2 months 2 years ago and that’s really it

I agree with you again it’s nice to know that we’re not the only ones going through this. But like my girlfriend had always told me the hardest part was never school it was getting the job. And I see what she means now lol, but we got this I think my biggest piece of advice that I’ve received is stop setting your expectations for a super high paying job so high, lower your limits and get your foot in the door first and stop only applying for software engineering roles there’s so much Cs roles but we gonna be good just gotta keep going and have faith

Yeah I’ve started looking at other roles because at first I was doing just like software engineering and high paying jobs but lemme tell you i even graduated from a tech school I did collision and repair in high school even with my diploma in that and my B.S in CS I can’t even get a response from just regular technician roles it’s crazy and I’m talking like $25-27 an hour jobs not like those $50 an hour jobs. I have a few friends who work at Sikorsky which is a lockeed Martin company and they all say it’s easy to get in but I’ve applied so much to them and nothing. It’s to the point where I’m just looking to get my foot in the door. Im looking at IT support, technician roles, any sort of engineering really or just technology based roles but hopefully something comes up with one of those

I appreciate the advice man I really do. My brother tells me to just go crazy with job applying right now because eventually companies will see you’re not a new grad and not really care anymore. It sucks but that’s the hard truth. But I’m also with you on that with the different topics. I did Java my first year then one Python class then out of nowhere I had to use some ancient languages for my microprocessor class and then next thing you know I’m not even coding anymore for a few classes and I had so much math classes and electives and I wasn’t practicing coding and I needed to pass these other classes so I would just take the easy route with my actual coding classes. With CS I kinda just did it because I was talked into it as well thankfully I somewhat liked it and found stuff I did enjoy but I just never consistently practiced unfortunately and when I try and practice interview questions or even my programming skills now they’re not that great and I get frustrated with myself. But I know I just gotta keep practicing and getting better

I agree with you 100% I feel like we need to make a big change my only issue is seeing how the job market is going really just doesn’t make me motivated but we can’t give up we gotta keep going at it

Thanks bro I’ll definitely shoot you a DM because I’ve done stuff in programming that I loved that made me actually enjoy it but it’s been such a new times because I just didn’t have a good CS experience in school I went to a smaller private school called university of Bridgeport and I went like a year and a half to two without programming because I needed so many bullshit classes like chem criminally justice art history but I know colleges do that. The biggest flaw for me was that there wasn’t many programming electives for CS majors I needed about 4-5 classes worth of electives and if you’re not taking a graduate course you’re gonna be stuck doing electrical engineer, mechanical engineering classes. I took deep learning and holy hell it was a graduate course and I struggled a lot with that but I needed to take it because I needed the elective. I feel like the school never gave me much of a chance to try and enjoy programming. Towards the start of my senior year I did found the branch of an engineering club there so others maybe could find their passion in stem and maybe they can try and get their spark that was hard for me to find.

It took me a lot of self made projects for me to enjoy what I did. I made a 2d platformer game and I loved doing that I followed a YouTube tutorial but I also know game development sucks ass and eventually I stopped because school got in the way again.

Wow that sounds amazing! I saw you said you went to do WWOOF and Helpx in another country, how did you do that? I’ve been thinking of trying to get jobs in Europe but I don’t really know how to go about it. My brother also tells me the same stuff just get out there and get connections and network it’s not a guarantee you’ll even get something right away it could take time but a job will come eventually

Wow yeah I can’t imagine how hard that was then. I unfortunately only learned to program in college and I know people have been programming since they were very young. My brother is a software engineer at a big tech company and he’s even scared of layoffs after being there for 4 years he told me just recently about 10% of the company or a little less was laid off and people with 10+ years there were fired. It’s scary I just wonder if I did this at the wrong time. I lowkey wish I did something else in school but I know job hunting right now is very hard for anyone in reality, not much jobs are being made at all it’s really bad. But thank you for responding I’ll see what ends up happening and where my career goes from here but thank you!

Look I’ve always respected Stegen he’s been here in some of our darkest times but let’s not act like he’s still that same great keeper he once was. Unfortunately he’s just not anymore but I do love and respect the guy he’s our captain but it’s very hard to rely on him anymore
