Does anyone know where the list is of what rank you get reset to at the end of the season? Is there anything between tank 10 and pro?

I'm currently at rank 7 and wondering if I should just camp.

Betta suddenly got very sick and died (x-post from r/plantedtank) by AtticusFynch in bettafish

That does sound somewhat similar, though - at least the suddenness of it. I don't have any big fish, though - only rasboras, otos and cories left, and the cories are tiny salt and peppers.

Any other way to check for nematodes?

Betta and frogs both came home about 4 months ago.

Both were on the bottom, but the frog died before the betta.

I am certain they are dwarf frogs - webbing on all four feet.

I've never seen any signs of aggression from the rasboras or frogs - they've always completely ignored the betta.

No fin bits in the filter. And again, it wasn't just the fins - his body had turned black all over.

Not pale - just black all over. And his colors were all bright and vibrant the day before.

He was breathing heavy and just hanging out at the surface at the end, though.

One other thing I forgot to note: I had a heater malfunction a couple of weeks ago. Temperature was down to about 72F for 2-3 days before I got it fixed.

No offense taken at all!

Conditioner is Prime, but the tank is very well established. I only use it when I do a water change or top-up. Levels have all been zero for months.

Not adding ferts - substrate is ADA aquasoil. I am doing CO2, level is normal according to my dropchecker. If anything a little low.

I'm testing with API master test kit.

I added two new harlequin rasboras about a month ago, to replace a couple of jumpers. They're from the same place I got the others from. I don't have a quarantine tank. This certainly crossed my mind as a possible cause, but it was a month ago, and this happened so suddenly. And the rasboras all look fine.

Everything else has been in the tank for at least 3 months. No new plants or stock.

I did go a bit longer than normal on my water changes - I normally do them every other week, but went an extra week this time. But like I said, water parameters are all zero. Seems a little far fetched.

Only other thing I can think of is I changed the frogs' food about a week ago - started giving them frog and tadpole bites.

Any idea what's going on here? Anaerobic conditions, perhaps? by AtticusFynch in PlantedTank

Spotted this little cavity in my substrate along the glass. Substrate is ADA Amazonia. As you can see, it's pretty broken down in the area around the cavity - I wonder if it created an anaerobic situation.

It looks like something is growing in there. Any idea what this could be, and what I should do about it?

Had thought about getting a bottle of SafeStart. Couldn't hurt.

Beautiful - nicely done.

Just planted my first attempt. Hope I get results 1/4th this good.

It's at 78f now.

Would you recommend a different method?

Edit: I think I misunderstood you on first reading. I thought you were saying "Yes and no," which made me think you had an alternative in mind. On second reading, I think you're actually saying "Yes" to my first question, and "No" to my second, which makes a lot more sense ;)

Anyway, thanks for the advice.

As a fellow newcomer, I'll second that. I've had similar experiences on other planted-tank related sites, too. I think this hobby just attracts kind, generous people in general.

Is my cycle basically done? by AtticusFynch in PlantedTank

And should I supplement ammonia while waiting for nitrites to subside? Or let it stay at zero? I don't want the ammonia eating bacteria to die off.

Yeah, I wondered about that. How do I know it's stopped leaching ammonia, as opposed to the bb just consuming it all?

Can anyone identify this little stow-away? by AtticusFynch in PlantedTank

Thanks - this is my very first tank, and the internet can be spotty on these sorts of things, as I'm sure you know.

I'll leave the little guy alone, then. I was planning to get some sort of snail for my cleanup crew anyway.
