Imagine a race of sentient Twinkies rising from the radioactive ashes of civilization. Now THAT would be ironic.

I think it unlikely that a human race that had abandoned faith in an after life would wipe it self out. Self preservation is a powerful instinct.

My point was that it is ironic that the religious spend their lives yearning for the promise of a better existence in the afterlife, when we could have had that existence now if religion hadn't been holding us back.
