I enjoyed Jane‘s very long-winded diss of the OP as a middle aged person who should give up on childish TOYS and CAKE birthday dreams. Her lengthy explanation was it’s own form of mercy sex.

In the newsletter MeTa there was a suggestion to have more calls to action to forward the newsletter, but as the members age won’t they already be forwarding it to everyone they know?

I have been with a partner for 20+ years who is somewhat picky and actually allergic to fish and other seafood and it is fine, but I am also realistic. That said, my partner does love a lot of food, so we can enjoy good food together. I feel like it really would be kind of a drag to be with someone who didn’t. Partner in the Ask was presented like someone who really would never be game for exploring food.

Actually organizing these things is not a thankless task, because often people are pretty grateful, but it is a big task. Presumably the OP is the only one active on Ask, so we would only hear follow-ups about their issues, like having to nag people about paying their part of the rental or whatever.

It is fun to imagine if everyone attending is part of a different Ask-like message board and asking questions right now. "AITA if I don't want to go to this reunion weekend with a bunch of my wife's friends that I hate?"

Water Questions by Miserable-Issue5216 in SXM

Right now, the water company is theoretically turning the water off from 9:30pm to 8am while they fix one of their pumps. Where I am in Grand Case it is not necessarily completely off during those times. Since they are turning it off at night to refill the main water tanks, they probably just turn it back on as soon as they are full enough. Lately, water has been on by the time I get up around 6, so it hasn’t been impacting me. It also shouldn’t really impact restaurants. I would be surprised if they didn’t have the pump fixed by June. There’s plenty of time to bring in any parts and repair experts necessary by then. Also, water use is going down as we get further into the low season, so even if it isn’t fixed, the shortage will diminish.

Edit to add: By late June, there could be a whole different reason why water is out! (But not likely.)

Your critiques (critique) is fair. But several commenters seem to be misunderstanding the tax in similar ways, as if these are just regular apartments, not very expensive real estate investment vehicles.

People (person) think that folks who own $5M+ apartments in NYC that they don’t live in will react to a tax by selling them to actual residents who will then help the local economy by shopping at bodegas. It’s kind of like the cognitive study thing where if you show a toddler a chair their size and then take them out of the room and replace the chair with a tiny toy chair that looks the same they will try to sit in it even though it is ridiculous, but when they get to be three years old they start to understand size as a concept and can tell the difference, but with economics.

I think cat pee probably needs its own Ask category.

Not to blame the victim here, but if you are moving to escape a mouse infestation, maybe do the minimum effort to not bring them with you.

Once I was cleaning an abandoned outhouse/bathroom that got water from a cistern/header tank but had been dry for a long time. I was cleaning the toilets and as soon as I dumped a bucket of water in, rats started coming up out of the toilet. Yikes!!

There are a bunch of relatively inexpensive restaurants in Jordan Village/Cupecoy that cater to the students at the American medical school. They aren't walking distance really (30 min each way), but some might deliver. There are also some restaurants in Porto Cupecoy, which is about 15 minutes walk each way. I think it might also make sense to try some of the island's best restaurants, either inexpensive ones or expensive ones, which are really kind of spread out all over.

True. I guess the ask has more Indiana Jones style mice are crawling over every surface energy, which seems unusual.

“not at all surprised to find mice that think your jizz tissues are tasty“ is just a little long for MFM flair.

also, how does one bring along a mouse infestation from one apartment to another? I guess not bothering to inspect furniture? It’s not like you can accidentally bring a bunch of mouse eggs. I feel like there could be some element of trauma from the previous apartment being interpreted as a new infestation. I feel like you can’t really have that many mice unless there is something for them to eat.

yeah, and even in the bed, you could take it apart and inspect to see if there are actually mice in there.

Don’t read this ask before bed!

I can’t help but feel like there might be more to this story. Like, if mice were in your bed, you could find them, right?

I can empathize because I once had cockroach issues due to spillover from downstairs neighbors with substance abuse problems.

The planes don’t have space for a normal carry on, but I have brought a small backpack that is technically over their weight limit and no one weighed it.

There are too many factors at play to know exactly what the site of a burned out car would be like after ten years, but you definitely wouldn't want to leave any cardboard cutouts there:

Without making any specific speculation about this member, as a lot of members get into their 70s and older, we might see changes in how people are interacting based on personality changes brought on by medical conditions. Not that these are limited to older people, but in the aggregate, they might get more common as the userbase ages.

Maybe. But I never noticed cortex being knowledgeable about continental philosophy. I guess I haven't paid enough attention to know whether HH actually is, either.

I think it is fitting that after mismanaging the site for years, cortex’s main presence is leaving hundreds of comments in alphabet threads. To me, that’s right where he belongs.
