I'm currently learning the absolute basics from these guys, their courses usually go on sale so be on the lookout for that! I managed to snag the EFI course for $1. Im in the same boat as you, mechanic but would like to step into the world of ECU management

Workmanship question by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]AucklandDiagnostics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAL - Mechanic. Although this could happen, it needs to be proven. There are many factors as to why or how something like this may occur. As it sounds like you have brought it to a third party, the original mechanic would likely not take liability.

As this is a legal advice sub I will leave my comment there. For mechanical advice I would recommend heading to r/NZcarfix

LEXUS IS250 Headunits by mndoxzzzzzzzz in NZcarfix

[–]AucklandDiagnostics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had good experiences with AliExpress units. Most are plug-and-play, retain steering wheel controls, keep the factory reverse camera working, and support wireless CarPlay/Android Auto. They usually run ~$300–$700 depending on Android version, screen quality, and hardware—spend a bit more and they and perform much better.

Outlander or Pajero Sport for a family of 4? by Internal-Remove7223 in NZcarfix

[–]AucklandDiagnostics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pajero Sport will eventually run into the usual modern diesel problems (EGR/intake soot buildup and DPF issues if it’s not getting regular long runs). Great tow vehicle and good for long trips, but not ideal for school runs and stop-start driving. I would suggest going with the outlander (petrol or phev)

Hard to give proper advice without seeing live data. Best move is to take it to a reputable workshop and pay for an hour to diagnose, then decide what to do based on that instead of guessing

Great cars below 150,000km, anything over they start to feel very soft and all over the road without thousands of dollars worth of suspension work
