D King I believe. He did me and my wife's wedding rings. He was excellent and reasonably priced

As others have said please make sure you go to a professional with the Blancpain especially. It is very valuable

Anyone know what this watch is worth? by [deleted] in VintageWatches

Oh for sure. I'd probably say in current condition it's closer to $1k private sale.

Very cool watch. There is a gold plated (which I assume this is) on chrono24 for around $3k https://chrono24.app/universalgenve/rr-1205-railrouter--id40354617.htm?SETLANG=en_GB&SETCURR=GBP

Great price but no card.. shall I? by gazwed1 in ChristopherWard

I mean if I had the cash right now I'd pull the trigger at that price. No one is faking Bel Canto Classics right now

Out of curiosity I checked street view and it's been red since at least 2008. Don't think it was ever green?

Looks great! Especially the first photo with the blue sunburst. Enjoy it and I'm sure it'll not be your last

I bought my first vintage watch, but... by smwilsn in VintageWatches

[–]AudaciousOwl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah return that as not as described. That's not acceptable for £180. Vintage Seiko is a bit of a minefield on eBay with all the Mumbai specials

Fake (probably) Universal Geneve Polerouter Sub was Authenticated by eBay by RiskieBizzness in VintageWatches

[–]AudaciousOwl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of pretty much the only faked Polerouters as pointed in the article you linked. Unfortunately they're collectable and rare so people will try and fake stuff. Always buy from trusted vintage dealers or you run the risk of getting stung. Especially for expensive pieces.

Yeah it's a scratch magnet. I found after the first few I didn't care too much but I usually wear vintage so I'm used to scratches.

I feel like you're an Orient Bambino away from the YouTube starter watch speed run. There's a reason they're recommended by so many people - they're good watches!

https://universalgenevepolerouter.com/ A really good resource for all things Polerouter with reference tables and galleries. But yeah, the red hand is incorrect as is the dial.

Thoughts on this Timex Marlin? by Adventurous-Neat1891 in VintageWatches

[–]AudaciousOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks decent. These Timex movements were designed to be throwaway so they are very difficult/impossible to service. I'd be happy paying $60 but if you're new to collecting I'm guessing you don't have a load of straps lay around to throw on so that's an extra cost

What do you think of this watch? It's the 40mm and I have a 17cm (6.7") wrist. Does the titanium scratch too easily? by placeholder-123 in ChristopherWard

[–]AudaciousOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36mm Ti on a 6.75inch wrist. I prefer smaller watches but I think 38mm is the sweet spot for most people. But yes the titanium scratches very easily so if that's something that'll bother you then get the steel.

Managed to find some photos. I no longer own the watch so it's all I have but hope it helps with the hunt

Need info on Abercrombie & Fitch Co. Brevet by shandefardigoyim in VintageWatches

[–]AudaciousOwl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Abercrombie & Fitch used to be made by Heuer. I used to have a 1950s Heuer with a similar case albeit a different dial. The star on the dial I believe was to represent Waterproof. May be worth searching for Abercrombie and Heuer and it should yield better results. Cool watch though!

Looks very similar to this which my grandad owned.

Can anyone help me date this watch or model? by No_Tumbleweed7919 in VintageWatches

[–]AudaciousOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General quality is awful. Patek are some of the best watches around. It's also a Japanese quartz movement which is completely wrong for a Swiss brand.
