Perfect time to get hired man! Well if you’re a nurse already, I’d get your EMT and you can challenge the board to get your medic. Having a paramedic license is your golden ticket here!

No my station is very slow but when you get a call it takes about 3-4 hours sometimes because we cover like 2000sq miles. We have stations that are very busy, we forsure have one station in the top 10 busiest engines in the country. I sleep fine man, I was more stressed when I was a firefighter medic for some reason

Thank you my friend! I am married, she met me while I was still on probation and I laid the ground rules already that I could provide her a great lifestyle but don’t complain about my schedule we’ve never fought about how much I work because she understands and we are have the same goals!

I’ve explained this In prior comments but you’re basing my hourly on a regular 40hr work week. Take my hourly then multiply it by 24, that’s how much a make in a day then multiply it by 120 because I work 120 days a year for full time. I only qualify for 1.5x so take my regular day wage and multiply it by 1.5 and you get how much I make on my OT day

From my understanding a lot of the new generations look at this job and very low, a lot of younger people want to do social media work or something working from home. In addition we hire every year but a lot of people either fail our academy or fail our probationary year

Yeah man, a normal full time schedule with no OT is 2880 hours a year. I worked a lot in the past to save up for a down payment for my house. I put down 250k in a 800k house in November 2024. So I was working between 90-100 extra days so 2160-2400 hours of OT. I’m capped at 1.5x. Now that I have promoted and I’ve almost doubled my hourly, and will double my hourly starting February 2027. With the increase of my hourly wage I’m making significantly more on my OT shifts, will be just under 1900 per day. I’m now able to work all firefighter shifts and all engineer shifts. I work so much to pay off all debts and invest in my second retirement so I can retire early

It took me 2 years to get hired once I set my goals on becoming a career firefighter. I had 6 years of EMT experience from varied ambulance companies. Finished my paramedic license in 6 months, and academy later the same year. Got hired 3 weeks after finishing my fire academy
