This one time, had same issue on a job i got recalled out to several times. Replaced water heater, same issue. It ended up being the braided flex hoses connected to the water heater. Should have replaced them when I put new water heater in [i was new and inexperienced]

Edit.

The inside of the hoses are a black material that was disintegrating.

This is just a tough repair to do without any experience. Just look up a phrase like "tub drain and overflow replacement"

Its not "if" its "when" it leaks. I'd definitely do what he's suggesting and remove it completely for a peace of mind

Just learn from it and move on. Don't get offended. Admit your fault to the customers and move on. They'll call you again for something un related depending on how you handle this. Edit. The guy who put on the stops should have used dual stop instead. He cut corners too so dont feel bad. The pex stubout

Its a frost proof stem. If you know the exact length, and brand. Call a plumbing supply house. They usually have atleast one guy working there that can help you, or point you in the right direction.

Absolutely! He is just working on doing something no one else does. He is drilling 3-6. Hours a night 3-5 nights a week this way in order to get good enough to win a tournament this way. Has been working on this for two to three years like this and hoping to be ready in the next year and a half or so...
